Absolutely CANDI: Episode 1 - Occurrences (Part 1)
SCENE 1
Kwabena walks into the reception of his old secondary school, holding some exam certificates and fumbling with them. Kerrell spots him, much to his joy.
Kerrell: Kwabena! You came back!
He hugs him tightly.
I missed you so much!
Kwabena: Aww, I missed you too. I'm not back, unfortunately. I just came to pick up some exam certificates. Sorry.
Kerrell: But... but why do you have to go? Why can't you stay here with me... and all the teachers... and everyone else?
Kwabena: I'm sorry, Kerrell. But it's time for me to move on with my life. You'll understand when you're older.
Kerrell: (faces the door) It's not fair.
Kwabena: Don't worry. (Hugs him) Year 8 will be a great year for you, I promise. Here, I have something for you.
Kwabena hands Kerrell a small book. The book is titled 'Kwabena's Book of Thoughts, Feelings and Wisdom'.
When I was in Year 8, I kept a book with all my thoughts and feelings written in it. There's some great tips in it too, and I thought it would be best to give it to you. Here!
Kerrell: (takes the book) Thanks, Kwabena. But it won't be the same without you around.
Kwabena: Ah, yes - but when you read this book, it'll feel like I'm right here with you!
The office lady knocks the window.
Office Lady: Kwabena? Your exam certificates are here for you!
Kwabena goes to the desk to pick up the certificates, before turning back to Kerrell, who is reading the book with much enthusiasm.
Kwabena: Are you sure you're gonna be OK, Kerrell?
Kerrell: Yeah, yeah, I'll be fine. Hey, look at this bit!
(Flips the page) Page 17: Always listen to Dr. Fonche - he's a doctor, so he knows what he'a talking about!
(Flips the page again) Page 18: On second thought, don't listen to Dr. Fonche - he's a control freak!
Kwabena: Erm, so I guess I'll be leaving now, then.
Kerrell: Yeah, yeah, bye.
Kwabena: Bye. (He walks towards the door, silent.)
Kerrell: Kwabena, wait!
Kwabena turns around, and is caught up in one final hug from Kerrell.
Goodbye. And thank you. For everything.
Kwabena: (hugs him and pats his head) You're welcome. I'll see you again some time, Kerrell!
Kwabena heads out the door and exits out the school gate, where Zoe is standing, checking her phone.
Zoe: You done?
Kwabena: Yep. I can finally say goodbye to this place...
Zoe: Yeah... Are you gonna miss it?
There is a silence between them, before they both start laughing.
Yeah, me neither. Quick, let's get a move on! Don't wanna be late on our first day! You know what they say, the early bird gets the worm. And as I say, the early girl gets the hot guys!
Kwabena: Hot guys, Zoe? Is that all you think about? I thought you wanted an education!
Zoe: I kid, I kid. As far as I'm concerned, I won't be getting into any relationships. Not as long as I have this.
She shows Kwabena her purity ring.
Kwabena: What's that?
Zoe: It's a purity ring Ben gave to me at prom. I'll explain more about it later, but that's really not on my mind right now...
She pauses to check her phone.
Kwabena: What is, then?
Zoe: The fact that the 121 to Enfield Town is is 2 minutes and that any bus we take after that will render us late! Quick, let's go!
They hurry down the street to catch
the bus towards the train station and towards their new sixth form.
Cue theme tune! (At the top, duh...)
