Hello wonderful people!

So, here's the first chapter of this book. The initial chapters are a little short, so I'll try to reduce the uploading time accordingly. Please bear with me!

Above pictured is what I imagine the Callahan siblings' house would look like.

Happy reading!

"Seriously, Matt? How old are you again?" I ask my brother, staring at the result of his stupid prank.

"Older than you, that's for sure," he retorted, before stuffing his face with more food.

"You're so lucky we don't live with mom and dad anymore. Mom would kill you if she saw this," I said taking a closer look at the mess, before moving back. "I hope you know you're the one who has to clean this up."

"No, it's going to be the housekeeper. But still, totally worth the look on your face," he grinned at me.

I just rolled my eyes. " I can't believe you're 25. Anyway, I have to meet Adam, so I gotta get going."

"Be back soon," Matt said.

My glare on him softened just a little. "Yeah. I'll be back soon."

I ran out of the house, into my car and quickly pulled out of the driveway. Matt's prank had already made me late. He thought it would be fun if he pelted me with eggs as soon as I entered the kitchen. Too bad for him, he just received death glares from June, our housekeeper.

It was difficult but fun to stay with my brother. He was too busy working most of the time, so incidents like these didn't happen often, nor did they bother me much when they DID happen, except for causing some minor headache.

It was a surprise when our parents gifted this house to us on the condition that we live together peacefully (for most of the part). We were not wild kids, we enjoyed partying but very rarely, plus our parents believed that now that we were both of legal age, it was time for us to get a little more responsible and live on our own.
So, instead of waiting for us to move out like normal parents, they gifted us the house.
As soon as Matt got a job at a leading tech firm (he's a freaking tech wiz) he started contributing to the bills, till he started paying them altogether (with some contribution from me too).
I had just graduated with a degree in Forensics and was soon to start my job.

Pulling into Adam's driveway, my face broke into a smile.
I had known Adam since the first day of freshman year at school, and even though he took Computer Science as his major in university, we were still close, trying to keep in touch whatever way we could.

Before I could ring the doorbell, the door opened and I was engulfed in the warm arms of my best friend.

"I was just about to call you. You're late," he said, his voice muffled.

"I'm sorry. I would've left home sooner but Matt pulled a prank," I said.

His shoulders shook with silent laughter, probably guessing what my brother had done. He pulled away a little, but kept his arm around my shoulders.

"I'll let it slide just because I know how he gets," Adam said jokingly, before pulling me inside. "Though it was a little hard to restraint Violet."

"IS SHE HERE?!" a voice, seemingly Violet's, came from the direction of the kitchen.

"Yeah, she is!" Adam shouted back, pulling me into the living area where his dad and Violet's boyfriend, Emmett sat.

Giving both of them a bright smile, I greeted them, before ducking under Adam's arm and making my way towards the kitchen.

It was family night at the Spears household, just like every month.

"You're here!" Violet exclaimed pulling me into a tight hug.

"You're a little late, missy," Ellen, Adam's mom, said smiling in my direction.

I gave her an apologetic look before smiling at her. "There was a little....complication at home."
She nodded her head in understanding before turning towards the oven.

"Will you help me set the table?" Violet asked.
I shrugged my shoulder and smiled. "Sure."

Violet and I shared a great bond. So did Ellen and I. I was practically a part of two families.

Following a few steps behind Violet, I felt a tug on my hand that stopped me. The sight of my fingers made me stop in my tracks. The tips glowed a little, increasing, then decreasing in intensity.

This was the third time this had happened in a week and I was too scared to tell anyone or do anything about it. Must be my imagination, I thought, and hurried after Violet.

Dinner was pleasant as usual. Adam got teased by his dad, Jim, and Violet got teased by Ellen for kids. Nothing out of ordinary.

"It's too late...I think you should stay over," said Adam.

I just chuckled. "You say this every time and I always give you the same answer."

He just shook his head and gave me a long hug. "Please drive safe and call me as soon as you get home."

"I will," I promised. "See you soon."

"See ya," he said before opening the car door and letting me slide into the driver's seat. I backed out of the driveway and turned back to take one last look at him.

'Be careful,' he mouthed. I smiled at him and started to make my way home.

Humming the song at the radio to myself, I looked at my hands on the steering wheel. A shriek escaped my mouth when I found both my hands, not just my fingertips, glowing. I clenched and unclenched them in an attempt to do something. Anything. A normal person's hands don't start glowing randomly out of the blue, do they?

Before I could think much of it, a blinding light appeared right before my car, and everything else went dark.
