I'm staring at the food on the kitchen island. Two plates with two pancakes, another two plates with scrambled egg and bacon strips, and two cups of brewed tea.
"Shocked?" Josh asks me, giving me a small smile.
"Very, I didn't know you're a morning person, and you cook! I thought guys could only eat," I reply, chuckling remembering how bad Dave is at cooking.
He shrugs, "if I want to live here alone, I should be able to cook, at least that what's my mom said before she let me moved here," he explains and start eating his pancakes. I was going to say something but then my phone buzzed.
Good morning Jenn, how was last night? Do you need a ride to school?
It's from Steve, after I broke up with my first boyfriend, I actually had feelings for him. Because he's such a caring guy, and he didn't make fun of me like Nick did but I soon got over it because I don't want tear this group apart. "Hey Josh, you're going to give me a ride to school right?" I make sure once again to him.
"Yeah sure," he says with a smile.
Me: I'm good Steve, Josh was staying last night. And turns out he's my neighbour too.
Steve: You had fun? Told you it won't be awkward. See you at school, xx
"Thanks Josh for accompanying me last night. I really hate being alone," I say sincerely.
"Yeah Jenn, it's fine. Good to know you didn't hate me," he replies with a genuine smile.
"No, it's just I'm not good dealing with new people." I shrug and sent him an apologetic smile.
The ride to school, Josh tells me more about himself, like he doesn't have any brother or sister. Or his favorite meal is pasta, and he likes to surf in his free time, stuff like that. By the time we arrive at school, it's still empty. I feel like de javu.
"Jenn, do you want to see my secret place?" He asks with a mysterious smile on his face.
Seriously? I bet what he means with secret place is the rooftop!
"Really? You have a secret place here? I thought you're new?" I say, decided to play along.
"Oh yes, I found this place yesterday, you know I'm a morning person. So I decided to walk around by myself before class starts, and I found this place." He explains at length.
"Well, you know Josh? I'm actually a psychic. And I can tell your secret place is so beautiful, and it's in a high place. It's the rooftop, isn't it?" I say with a playful grin.
"What? No way! You're the girl in the rooftop yesterday? Well, I guess it's not so secret anymore," he replies as we walk to the rooftop.
I always feel so overwhelmed every time I come here. It's like a piece of heaven in earth, I will be so sad to leave this school in less than a year. Time flew so fast, it feels like it was still last week when I first moved here with Dave, now I'm graduating in less than a year.
"You really like it here, don't you Jenn?" He asks, still enjoying the wind blowing in our face.
"Well, I come here, a lot. Mostly to cry, or just to think," I tell him. "But I guess I have to find other place to cry now." I add jokingly
After ten more minutes of silence, just enjoying the peaceful moment, we decided to head to our first period. Mine is history, and I love history. It's interesting knowing what people were doing 200 years ago, or how they live their life, how was life during war, stuff like that. But I definitely don't enjoy memorizing them.
