Chapter 2: Who Knows?

*all spelling and grammar errors in Liam's texts are intentional because we all know that Liam can't spell.

I went to my phone to make a contact for Liam, I wanted to make sure nothing happened to his number. Once it was made, I looked at the screen and smiled. I couldn't believe how lucky I was! I was so elated that I almost didn't see the name that now came right after Liam in my contacts. Libby! I had to tell her and Mads! I speed walked out of the back room and up to the registers. I could see that Liam was getting a lot of help with his bags because he didn't have his sweatshirt to conceal his identity anymore. I thought about helping, but there was already a hoard so I went straight towards my best coworker friend, Mia.

Thankfully, she wasn't helping anyone right then.

"Hey Mia!" I exclaimed "I'm taking my break." Once I said that I started towards the doors.

"Okay! But be back in half an hour!" She shouted after me.

I gave her a wave to show that I'd heard and left the store. Once i had done so, I broke out into a sweat. It was around three o'clock (the hottest part of the day) so 80 degrees out was cool for summer in Nebraska, but still not pleasant. How did Liam wear a sweatshirt in this weather? I did my best to ignore the heat as I made a beeline for Bath and Body Works. I saw Mads walking around the store while offering lotion samples. I started walking towards her and when she saw me she smiled and waved.

"Hey girlie!" she exclaimed "What's up? What's with the sweatshirt?"

"I'll explain soon, I have huge news. Break. Now." I said with urgency. I tried my best to sound serious but i couldn't wipe the smile from my face. She saw my expression and assumed that it was good news as she rushed off to tell her boss that she was going on break. Once she got back to me we rushed out of the spinning doors and instinctively started towards Panera. Rushing through the doors, we saw Libby talking with a coworker while eating a blueberry muffin. That was classic Libby, one of the only reasons she worked at Panera was the free food. She came over to us as soon as we came into her line of sight.

"Hey guys! Do you want anything?" she asked, motioning to the wall of bagels.

"I'll have an everything," Mads said.

"One everything bagel coming up!" Libby said cheerfully "And for you Ava?"

"The usual," I responded. Every time I visited Libby at work I got an asiago cheese bagel. I've never even tried one of their sandwiches.

Once we all had our food, we sat down at a booth in the corner of the store.

"Sooo? What's the big news??" Mads asked.

"Okay, you're never going to believe me, but I met just met Liam Payne!! And we kind of...made out!" they both just stared at me in complete and utter shock.

"No way, not possible," Libby said blatantly.

"But I have proof! The sweatshirt! It's his, and look at my hand." I opened my hand so they could read the note he left me.

"Okay," Mads said, still sounding skeptical "tell us everything!"

I then proceeded to tell them the whole story.

"Wow, you have to text him!" Libby exclaimed.

"Now? He's probably not even back to his hotel yet! Won't that seem desperate?"

"Yes it will," Mads said "but you also have to be careful to not wait too long. He is Liam Payne, he could have any girl he wants so he could move on quickly. Text him tonight, at around 8:30"

I still couldn't figure out why he chose me. Even in comparison to my best friends I was nothing special. Mads had her long straight blonde hair and green eyes, and Libby had her shoulder-length wavy red hair and blue eyes. We were all fairly tall and skinny, we were definitely pretty, but I couldn't figure out what set me apart from the rest.

We talked for a couple more minutes and then our breaks ended so we went back to our respective jobs. The rest of my day I was insanely distracted by the impending texts between Liam and I. I spent my afternoon thinking about what to send to him, but I realized that he was a normal person, so I sent him what I send all of my friends.

"Hey Liam, it's Ava. How's it going?"

"Great! I'm really glad you got in touch. How about you love?"

"Pretty good :) I'm glad I got in touch too, haha"

"Look, Ive got a early morning tomorrow and I shoud be going to bed soon. So let's skip the small talk and get 2 the point. Do u want to hang out tomorrow?"

My heart was beating fast in my chest. He wanted to hang out with me! It wasn't just a one time thing, he wanted to see me again. It hadn't really set in until then. And his assertiveness was totally unlike him, but really sexy, maybe he was consulting with the boys. I realized that I'd spent a lot of time being excited so I replied.

"I'm game. When?"

"I'm only here for 4 more days, so let's do tomorow. I'm busy til 10, but I cud do breakfast @ 10:30. "

"That sounds good, I'll trade shifts with someone at work. Where should we go?"

"Idk, your the one who lives here. Where do u want 2 go?"

"We could go to Panera, they have bagels, muffins, and coffee."

"Sounds perfect! C u then"

"See you! Goodnight"

"Nite babe"

I immediately started to text Libby to make sure she would be working.

"Omg Libby, guess what!!"

"Omg Ava, what??" I read it in her voice and I could tell it was dripping in sarcasm.

"Liam asked me out and we're going to Panera tomorrow morning at 10:30. You better be working!"

"What?! Seriously?? I am and you have to introduce me!"

"I definitely will. Make sure Mads goes on break at 10:45 and I'll introduce both of you!"

"K, I'll text her now! I'm so happy for you!! And maybe if you guys become a couple, Mads and I could meet the band!" Libby and Mads were Directioners as well. We would fangirl over them all the time. Libby loved Niall, Mads loved Harry, and I of course loved Liam. So if my dream is coming true, maybe theirs could too!

"Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, but who knows what could happen?"

*Sorry there wasn't much going on in this chapter, but the next one will be more eventful, I promise. :)
