Oh, it's the end of the chapter. I close the book with a small thud and chuck it on the end of my bed. I rub my neck and straighten my back until I hear the click. I close my eyes, uncross my legs and lay down on top of my bed. I wonder what it would be like to live in the places my books are set in, I can see myself running across galaxies, going into the world of computers, meeting people who are really foxes, falling in love with a man from another planet, so many impossible things. My eyes open and slowly adjust to the light, the white blank ceiling stares back at me. I move my head to the right and see the alarm clock on my bedside table, 6:30pm, isn't it about time for-

"When on earth are you going to get a job?!" A voice erupts through the wall.

... There it is.

"Chill mum, I'll go look for one tomorrow." A more muffled voice replies.

Every day, on the dot, my mother and my brother go at it about him being jobless.

"You are 22 years old Rickey! All you do is sit around all day!" Her voice raises a bit more.

"What are you going to do when y/n does this?" He replies with a grunt.

"Don't you dare bring your sister into this! And keep your voice down, I don't want her to know about me asking you to get a job every single day!"

"Well, it's going to happen soon enough,"

"No, it isn't, she is not going to mooch off of me like you do! She's responsible! She goes to school, does her homework, more than you ever did!"

Wow mum, are you kidding? I'm not responsible.

 I'm just me.

"Guuuurlblblbrl." My stomach interrupts my thoughts.

I should eat... I silently walk over to my door and open it quietly so no one can hear me, I can still hear mumbles from the room next to mine, no doubt my mother going through job websites with Rickey again. I trot off to the kitchen that awaits me, and find my long lost lover, the fridge. I open the door to an almost empty fridge to a half used tub of margarine, and some dodgy looking milk. I find some peanut butter and bread in the cupboard, and made a sandwich. Shoving the sandwich into my mouth I hobble back to my room trying to avoid my mother. So close, a few more steps, alright I made i-

"Y/n." Mother sings.

Oh god please no.

"Yes mum?" My voice muffled from a mouthful of bread.

"Are you alright?" She asks, slightly concerned.

I swallow my mouthful.

"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" I enquire, she always cared, but I never really... trusted her.

"Well, alright, goodnight y/n." She says.

"Night... mum."

I open my door, step inside and close it again, I walk over to my bed, sit down and finish off my sandwich.

I need a job.

*A/N No TMNT this chapter, they will make their debut in the next one or two chapters though, I just needed a back story.
