It was July.

The night sky was filled with stars. Stars that swam across the sky like fish in the sea. They glittered far above like an entirely different world, a world some would kill to explore.

The moon stood in the sky, a sliver, pale and sharp. It seemed to watch over the world below, washing it in mystical silver light.

There were stars on the ground too. In the form of bugs, that gave off blue-green light and buzzed around as if it were their only duty to light the way.

Two boys lay on the ground.

One in a blue shirt with small orange hearts, looking almost like he was reflecting the stars. Another in plain black, as if the night sky by itself, devoid of life.

One with black hair, another with brown. They were sleeping, with their hands interlocked.

Fireflies buzzed around their heads, curious. They illuminated the gentle faces of the sleeping boys, assisting the moonlight.

A deer crept about in the woods nearby. She saw the boys, of course. She would steer clear.

The moon continued to shine.

The boys slept on.
