It was foggy that morning, an ominous cloud that masked the roads and seeped between the trees. The forest was filled with a light silence, only broken by soft winds blowing and birds chirping in the crisp January air. There was a clearing right in the middle with a spot for the sun to shine through, illuminating the mist with a heavenly glow. It was peaceful.

Until it wasn't.

A gigantic black wolf broke through the clearing, shattering the tranquility and moving at a speed so fast that it's legs looked like a blur to the human eye. Its body brushed past the tree trunks and sliced through the fog with surprising grace for a creature so big. Behind the wolf ran another, built larger in stature and sprinting to keep up. The wolf in front let out a small howl, pink eyes glistening with amusement.

The pink-eyed wolf picked up its pace and leaped past the opening in the thick brush of the forest, out into an opening where a wooden house came into sight. As it neared the house, the wolf's joints popped, bones shifted, and it transformed back into the human form of Kimberly Hart. She smacked her hands against the wall of the house, nearly denting it with the force behind the slap and she turned with a chuckle as she saw Zack Taylor shifting with a pout.

"You're getting better, Zack attack."

"Will you ever stop calling me that?"

"Not a chance," Kim grinned. "I get the shower first!" She cheered, not caring much that both of them were naked. They got used to it after a while.

She ran up the stairs and straight into the shower as Zack shouted something about saving some hot water for him. Zack grumbled in annoyance as he walked into the house, immediately encompassed in warmth which was a stark contrast from the crisp air outside.

Kim finished showering rather quickly, loving the feeling of the sweat and dirt accumulated from the forest sliding off her body and down the drain. She could've stayed in there, waited until the water went cold and let Zack deal with the aftermath, but she was feeling particularly nice that morning and decided to give the guy a break. After all, she had just beaten him for what felt like the millionth time in their forest races.

She finished getting changed into new clothes and putting on some light makeup that Zack insisted was unnecessary because, "We're werewolves, bro. We're already like, the epitome of hot," before heading downstairs where Zack was already waiting for her.

"So, it's your birthday tomorrow. The big one-eight. How you feelin', Kimmy?" Zack asked, poking her cheek as she pulled a pack of sandwich meat from the fridge.

"Like I'm going to be eighteen tomorrow," she deadpanned.

"Okay then," Zack scoffed. "Are you not at all excited about the prospect of possibly meeting your mate?"

"Uh, more nervous honestly," she admitted as she began making two sandwiches. "Like, what if they're weird, or smell weird, or what if they're mean. Or," she gasped. "What if they're a boy?" She scrunched her nose in disgust and Zack tipped his head back, letting out an obnoxious laugh.

"Kim, you're gay. Your soulmate is not going to be a boy."

"Yeah, well, maybe the universe hates me. Or is homophobic or something."

"I'm, like, ninety-nine percent sure that the universe is incapable of having any sort of prejudices based on sexuality, Kimberly."

"Hm, you never know!" She sang playfully. She set a plate down in front of Zack and the two of them began to devour their sandwiches that were honestly just meat with a side of bread.
