She gives me a cute pout and tries again, this time a scratchy, uninterruptible noise comes out. I put her out of her misery by handing her my water bottle from the bedside table and she drink the whole thing in seconds.

"Thank you," she finally gets out, her voice quiet and still a little rough from not being used.

"Why are you being so quiet?" I ask. I was expecting we to have a million questions when she woke up but she just seems skittish.

"Are you mad at me?" She asks, looking up at me with her big blue eyes.

"I'm not happy that you put yourself in that situation, especially considering that we had been trying to get you pregnant the past week. I'm not happy you succumbed to Carly's idiotic remarks. I'm not happy you lost so much blood that it took over a day for you to wake up," she looks down again, pouting her bottom lip once more. I sit back in the bed, lifting her chin up gently and forcing her eyes to meet mine. "But Sage, I'm not angry that you stood up for yourself. I'm not mad that you showed everyone that you are a strong Luna. I'm not upset that you are awake. And I'm sure as hell not angry that our son is alive and healthy."

Her eyes widen like that of a cartoon character and her mouth opens and closes a few times.

"You mean...Mason..." She looks so adorable when she's confused. "Mason! Mason, I'm pregnant?" Her voice grows progressively louder, making the scratchiness of it more apparent.

I nod at her with a wide smile on my face, expecting the same expression in return. Instead, her whole face crumbles and tears stream down her face faster than I can even try comprehending the reason for her reaction. I immediately pull her into my lap, rubbing my hand up and down her back and rocking slightly to soothe her. She buries her face in my chest, her tears soaking my T-shirt.

"Sage, baby... you aren't happy?" I can't hide the hurt in my voice as she sobs into my chest.

"I-I am h-happy, it's just-" her sentence is choppy and stuttered out through tears before she is cut off by a heavy sob wracking her small body.

"Sage I thought you wanted this? I-I thought you wanted...." I trail off, my heart aching at the thought of her turning down my claim to the end of that sentence.

She sniffles and lifts her head to look at me. "Mason, I do. I want you. I want us. I want him," her voice is stronger as her hand goes to her stomach and she gives a half smile down to it before her eyes turn up to me and sadden again. "But Mason, what am I supposed to do about Conner? Nothing was solved. I- I thought we would be able to somehow get him out of the picture before I got pregnant... before I gave him a new weakness..." she whimpers painfully. I wipe my thumb under her eyes, catching her fallen tears.

"It's going to be okay, Sage. He can't get to you here. You're safe with me. I will always keep you safe." She doesn't look like she believes me, her eyes dropping to the ground.

"I love you Sage. I love you and I love our son and we will all be okay," I tell her again when she responds with nothing but silence. This time she doesn't acknowledge that I said anything at all.

The door opens rather harshly and Faith comes rushing in. I sigh audibly, knowing that my mate won't backtrack to this conversation and still won't believe me.

"Sage, you're awake! I was coming back and I heard the nurses downstairs talking about how the Luna was awake and I tried running to you but Carver held me back saying that I should give you two more alone time but I just couldn't wait any longer and so I may or may not have an angry Carver chasing behind me!" Faith rants, smiling guiltily as she speaks of her mate. Not five seconds later, Carver slams through the same door, his features set in a glare.

He walks to Faith and pulls her to her chest, still glaring down at her. "What did I say?" He asks as though the idea had been rehearsed longer than Faith let on.

She smiles innocently at him and his tough look softens immensely. I clear my throat, making them both snap out of la-la land and look at me.

"Sorry if she interrupted anything... I tried convincing her to give you space but that obviously didn't work...." Carver answers my inpatient look. Faith immaturely sticks her tongue out at him but he doesn't seem to mind.

"She's my sister and I had every right to be here as soon as I could," Faith argues, coming to sit next to us on the bed. "How you doing?" When she looks to Sage, her eyebrows draw together in confusion before turning on me and narrowing.

"Why was she crying?" Faith demands.

"It's nothing Faith... I was just a little emotional from the fight and being out for so long. It's okay though, Mason helped," Sage assures her, giving her a smile. My confusion grows as Sage hides the news about her pregnancy. I thought she'd for sure want to tell Faith of all people.
