Justine lay in her bed, staring at the bright light coming from her phone. All noises are muffled by her headphones blasting music. All but one. No matter how loud Justine's music is, she can still hear the howling wind. It's so loud, it's practically begging for attention. Justine's anxiety doesn't help the situation, with the wind sounding like something out of a horror movie, and her parents being away. Justine is left with only her dog to warn her of any possible danger. Their house is rather old so it freaks every once in a while, but it's a very faint creak. As Justine continues to look at her phone, scrolling through Twitter, Justine hears the infamous BREEEE coming from her phone. This scares the ever living shit outta Justine as she drops her phone on her chest, leaving her in complete darkness. Justine takes a moment to breathe and collect her thoughts. Finally Justine grabs her phone and looks at the message.
Emergency Alert
Flash Flood Warning this area until 6:15 am. Avoid flood areas, check local media for more information!
"Flash flood? Yeah no shit."
She glances up at very phones clock. 10:28 pm. Justine and her parents live pretty close to where the flooding usually happens, but they're never actually hit by it. Justine's dog begins to whine and scratch at the door. Justine ignores her and continue scrolling. Once more she scratches at the door, and she ignores her again. Justine isn't a dog person, Justine likes cats more but her dad tells me "A cat can't warn or protect you from danger!" So without her consent he got her a dog for protection. She a big mastiff. Big and loud. She's startled once more by her loud bark. Justine slams her phone on the bed and grabs the dog by the collar as she walked her downstairs to let her out.
"Dumb dog.."
Justine stayed down stairs as she waited for her to finish her business. Throughout that time Justine gets the unnerving feeling that someone or something is watching her. It sends a shiver down her spine. The wind continues to cry as she waits. It sounds so ghostly that she couldn't stay calm, so she tries to focused on the calming sound of rain, but to no avail, it just sounds like angry pounding on the houses roof.
Soon she hears the wind come to a sudden stop. The rain is still there, but that's it. Justine's dog hasn't made a sound and she now begins to grow worried. Justine grabs a flashlight and an umbrella, as she slips on some rain boots and heads outside.
"Pauline!" She cries.
"Pauline time to come inside!"
Justine is freezing and that feeling of being watched grows stronger. Justine's house doesn't have any porch lights which is why she's forced to use a flashlight. The wind starts up again, louder than ever... the only problem is, she then failed to realize that's not wind... it's.. it's screaming. Whatever is out there sounds injured. She didn't want to leave the safety of the porch but Justine's dad would kill her if Pauline wasn't t safe. Behind her neighborhood is an empty and dirty lot filled with dying trees and other plants. Their fence is broken so Justine and Pauline have easy access to that lot.
It's been twenty minutes and she couldnty find that stupid dog. She could only see 10ft in front of her, but everything else is just pitch black. As Justine walked further into the lot, that screaming begins to fade as does the rain, and her once racing heart begins to calm down.
"Pauline!!"
Justine angrily shouted as she marched forth. All this trouble just for a dog.
The rain caused some mud puddles and even some small sink holes. Justine tried her very best to avoid them, but she failed and fell face first into a puddle and even managed to scrape her knee through the cheaply made sweat pants she wore. Justine winced in pain as she weakly crawled up, but halted as she hears a loud ringing in her ears. Quickly Justine covers her ears and groans. The sound was so loud it actually hurt, but after a couple seconds it fades and she looks around releasing her hands from her ears. Justine looks up and see's Pauline.
"There you are!"
She just stared at Justine. No panting or anything. She didn't even lick her. Come to think of it, it doesn't look like she's breathing.
"H-hey girl.."
Justine hesitantly reaches out her hand, she jerks it back to safety as she hear Pauline start to growl at her.
"Hey it's just me!.. P-Pauline?.."
She continues to grown and snarl at Justine. Then Justine notices... it's eyes are red and the fur is black. That's not her dog.. that's something else! Whatever that thing is, it lunges towards her!
Justine places both arms in front of herself to protect her own face, and Justine could feel the agonizing sharp pain of wet and dirty dog teeth, sink into her skin. It continues to tug as she pulled away and kick the beast. Justine manages to strike the thing on its nose, and she soon makes a break for home!
She tightly grips onto her arm and cry out in pain, still focusing to get home. As Justine runs, she gets the feeling that she's lost it and hide behind a tree. Justine rips off half of the leg from her sweats and ties it around her arm, to hopefully stop the bleeding. Justine's butt and feet are wet as she sits. Justine looks down and see's that the water had risen at least 3 inches since 30 minutes ago. Soon she smells something revolting.. like blood. She assumes it's her arm, but the smell is strong, like something.. something had died... Justine looks in front of her. Nothing. Then to her right. Nothing. Justine dreaded having to look to her left. Justine took a deep breath and slowly turned her head to the left... to Justine's horror.. was Pauline.. she.. she looked like she was mauled by a bear! But the only wild predators they have here are owls and coyotes! What the hell could've done this!? Justine could see Pauline's entrails were laying besides it.. Justine holds back my urge to vomit, from the sight and smell of her now dead dog. How did she not hear her cries of pain!? Then she remembered.. the howling wind. Justine lays her hand on Pauline's bloody head and she begins to cry.
"I'm so sorry..."
Justine looks ahead and see some lights in the distance. Justine smiled in relief and quickly got up to run towards what looked like safety. The closer she got the less flooded it got. Justine was abruptly stopped by a wall a fire. What the hell?! It just manifested in front of her just like that! And then she see's it.. that same big black dog from earlier. That wall of fire wasn't that long. But the dog slowly inches towards her, the fire dying out, leaving the ground covered in ash and soot. Justine slowly blacks up, while she stares directly into those piercing red eyes. Once more it tries to attack me but she throws her flashlight at it, and it cries out in pain! Justine sprints to the house and crawls under the fence, cutting open her calf on a loose screw. She screams again and hold onto it, but Justine can't waste any time. She ignored the pain and head inside. The monster dog follows, and Justine shuts the door behind her just in time as it crashed into the glass door. She was terrified at the fact that this dog or wolf or whatever it was.. was strong enough to crack the glass..
"What the fuck are you?..."
Justine quickly closed the curtains and head upstairs to the bathroom to patch herself up. She could hear that thing grown and continue to crash into the door. Justine did a sloppy job at wrapping her wounds up, but she can't afford to waste anymore time. Justine runs to her parents room and grabs her dads pistol, grab the house phone, dial 911, and hide in their closet.
"911 what's your emergency?"
"I NEED THE POLICE AND ANIMAL CONTROL! PLEASE!"
"Please calm down and tell me again. What's going on?"
"THERES THIS RABBID DOG OR WOLF TRYING TO KILL ME! IT KILLED MY DOG AND ITS TRYING TO GET I-"
CRASH
She hears the glass door break and Justine's heart stops. It's breaking down all the doors trying to find her!
"Ma'am? Please tell me your name and address, and we'll send down a sheriff right away."
"Please.. please don't hang up.."
"Sweetie I'll be right here on the line. Tell me your name and address"
She shakily speaks and gives her tells her "Justine" and gives her the address. That thing is getting closer and closer.
"Ok sweetie, tell me where are you. Are you hurt?"
"I-I'm in my parents closet with my dads gun. That thing bit my arm while I was outside l-looking for my dog, a-and I cut open my leg while crawling under my fence.."
The lady tries her best to keep her calm as Justine whimpers and cries for her life.
Justine drops the phone and screams in fear as the creature breaks down her parents bedroom door. The lady on the other line tries to speak with Justine, but she was too busy screaming and cursing at that thing. Her parents closet is pretty big, so she moves to the back and aims the gun at the door.
"St-stay back!"
Justine's voice is shakey as she cocks the gun and close her eyes. The beast breaks down the closet door and lunges at her.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Smoke leaves the tip of the gun as the young girl looks down and see's the beast on the ground. No movement or anything.
Justine falls to her knees and cup my face in her hands and begin to cry. She's finally safe..
"Ma'am? Ma'am are you ok? The sheriff should be there any moment now"
She stared at the thing and saw how it's body began to shrivel up and turn into ash. Justine's eyes grew heavy and she finally passed out from exhaustion.
She wakes up in a hospital bed, IV in her arm and all stitched up. Justine looks around and sigh in relief. The girl saw her parents asleep next to her and Justine smiles softly. But.. She looks out the window and see that thing again. Her heart races and the monitors begin to beep and click rapidly. Doctors rush in as Justine's parents jolt up and try to help.
"That thing! I killed it but it's back! What is it!"
Doctors and nurses did their best to stabilize Justine and succeeded. She eventually calmed down and fell asleep again. Justine was discharged a week later. After doing some research she found out that what was chasing her, was a hell hound. She was terrified of what she found and shunned herself in her room most of the time. In hopefully of avoiding her untimely death. That failed horribly as she died no less than a month later from malnutrition.
