As I take the train back home, I couldn't help but think about why Victoria just told me. 'You are Divergent between Erudite and Dauntless.' well, I'm not exactly surprised by that. My mother was an Erudite transfer-initiate and my father was Dauntless-born. It seems like ten years has passed to get out of the city and toward Dauntless compound, my eyes fluttered shut.

I am awoken by a sudden jolt from the train and I realize that I'm at the fence. I curse under my breath, frustrated with the fact that I have to wait another one-and-a-half hours to get back to the Dauntless compound. As I near the Erudite compound, I see a tall figure dressed in black sprint to the train tracks. A dauntless, which I now identify as Eric. I begin to pray that he'll catch the car behind me, but feel my heart drop to my stomach out of fear as he hops into the same car as me. Oh god, here we go. He doesn't seem to notice me until a few seconds later, he does a double take and we just stare at each other. We both know it's past my curfew, and if I guess right he expects me to be scared shitless right now as he quirks an eyebrow in curiosity. Well, I'm not as scared. Instead of cowering into a tighter ball in the corner, I immediately stand to my feet and glower at him, challenging him, showing him that I'm not a child that can be easily scared. He scoffs at this and rolls his eyes, looking back into the setting horizon.

"Isn't it past your curfew?" Eric asks as he looks me up and down. I shrug and say, "Yeah, I guess. At least we get to catch dinner on time, right?"

He nods quietly and looks back into the setting sun again. After what seemed like hours, when really it was just twenty minutes, Eric steps all the way to the back of the car, ran, and landed gracefully. I did the same, but less graceful, causing me to fall into his arms. Way to embarrass yourself, Luella. "Be careful there, Luella," Eric's voice rumbles in his chest, "wouldn't want to hurt yourself before initiation. That is, if you're staying here."

Why does he make me feel so weird? Not the creeped out kind of weird, but it's something else and I can't really place my finger on it. It frustrates me. I push myself off of him, stumbling a little in the process. "I'll be here, you don't have to worry." I respond as I climbed onto the ledge where there was a huge dark whole.

"I wasn't worrying in the first place," he says and I roll my eyes. "I'll meet you at the bottom?"

I shrug, "Sure, I guess." with that, I jumped off while doing a front tuck and landed successfully at the bottom. Eric wasn't there yet, so I rolled off of the net and landed flawlessly. Soon, I heard Eric's pounding footsteps. I turn to face him with a cocky smirk. "I thought that you were going to help me."

"I never said that," says Eric with a larger smirk. "I only said that I will see you at the bottom."

"Whatever." I said, waving him off. He laughs a genuine laugh. It's kind of nice to hear, since he's known for his scary appearance. We then walk in silence towards the apartments only for the leaders of Dauntless. As we walk, this one question nags at me: why was he at the Erudite compound? My parents' apartment comes into view and I stop in my tracks and so does Eric. Well that's odd. "Um, this is me. It was nice chatting with you."

"No need for farewells. This is my stop as well."

"Oh my gosh! Freeloader, much?" I laugh at me own joke, but he doesn't laugh along. So I immediately pull my shit together. "No but really, though. Weren't you over for breakfast. So now it's dinner? What's wrong with the food in your fridge?"

"Yes, I was over for breakfast," Eric replies with a dramatic eye-roll. "No, there's nothing wrong with the food I have at my place. I need to discuss some matters with your parents."

"What kind o-"

"Are you sure you're going to stay in Dauntless? Because you have the stupidly curious trait of an Erudite, so you might as well transfer there since you ask a lot of damn questions."

This shuts me up. Not because of his attitude, but his oblivious reminder of my Divergence. Without any further a due, I unlock the door and step inside. "Hey Mom, Dad! I'm home."

"Hello, pumpkin!" my father, Adrien Ranes, greets me with a hug. "How was the test?"

"It was alright, I wasn't scared or anything." I told him with a casual shrug along with a smile.

"That's good to hear, love." says my mother as she walks into the room.

"Thanks. Oh! Mom, Dad, we have a guest. Again."

"Eric!" my mother gasps. "Is there a matter to discuss?"

"Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Rolfe. I am here to discuss yet another important case," he glances at me. "Alone." My parents smile softly and almost too perfectly.

"Pumpkin," says my father, "why don't you go to your room for a bit and settle a few things, hm?"

"Yes, Father." With that, I stroll into my room. What's going on? What is Eric telling my parents and can't tell me?
