Dylan picked me up off his shoulder and placed me on the floor when we reached his secret room, the door shutting behind us. Razor grabbed Shallow from Cinder's back and dropped him to the floor before walking to the door and sitting in front of it like a guard dog. Guard wolf I mean.

"What were you thinking, going into that thing's territory like that?" Dylan asked me in annoyance.

"I didn't know, okay!" I protested. "Shallow and I saw something shiny, so we were going over to see what it was. I didn't think it was a good idea, but Shallow made a good point when he said we had Razor to watch our backs!"

"I know you didn't know," Dylan sighed, kneeling down to the floor. "It's just, when Cinder came back here without you three, I knew there was something wrong."

"I-I'm sorry..." I mumbled, bowing my head and flattening my ears.

"Did you look him in the eye?" Dylan asked suddenly.

"I'm not sure. There was a red light pointed at me, though."

"Yup. You did." Dylan stood up and looked to the door. "Lock-down mode," he said. There was a beeping sound, and there was a red holographic lock in the center of the door.

"Lock-down mode?" I echoed. "Why?"

Dylan walked past me and hit the wall next to the desk, causing a small compartment to open. "Because, now that machine won't stop at nothing until he finds a way to get to us. You provoked him by making direct eye-contact with him," Dylan explained, taking two mechanical spear things from the compartment, one larger than the other.

"What are those for?" I asked, pointing at the spear things.

"These are for sending that thing back where it belongs. If we get close enough, anyways." Dylan tossed the smaller one to me. "Heads up!"

I leaped up and caught the spear thing in my arms. Landing back on the floor, I looked at the design of the device. On the side of the machine, it said 'Electro-Fire Model 2' where some sort of panel was.

"What can this thing do?" I asked, looking up at Dylan.

"It can fire up to 5,000 volts of electricity at a time on the highest setting, making it powerful enough to light up an entire country," Dylan replied. "I usually keep it at the third setting, where only 300 volts of electricity are fired at a time. That way, it's powerful enough to paralyze that machine you saw earlier so it'll stay still long enough for me to reprogram the mainframe."

"Whoa! That's shocking," I said.

"Really, Paintbrush? Really?" I jumped and turned around to see Shallow sitting up and looking at me, his blue eye dim, yet bright at the same time.

"What? What'd I say?" I asked, wondering what Shallow was judging me for this time.

"Dylan just got done explaining how many volts of electricity that thing could fire, and you say that's shocking," Shallow answered, standing up and crossing his arms.

I stood there in silence, trying to figure out what was wrong with what I said. "Oh, I didn't even realize I did that!" I laughed when I finally understood what he meant.

"Oh, Shallow," Dylan said unexpectedly, "catch! You're going to need this!" Then, another spear thing was thrown from behind me at Shallow.

Shallow caught it with one hand and looked at it, narrowing his eyes and swishing his blue-striped tail behind him. Then, his blue eye lit up with what looked like alarm. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold up!" Shallow hissed, looking up at Dylan. "Are you making me take this Electro-Whatsit to shoot down a deadly machine that wants to kill us all because a certain idiot looked it in the eye!?" He gestured at me when he said 'certain idiot', making my fur bristle in agression.
