Ana

Of all the things I had agreed to in my life, this might not have been that bad. I still hated it, I absolutely hated mutts but I loved my sister more. So I could not refuse her request, my beautiful vampiric sister's request to cross a packs border and help two of our friends settle into their new lives. Not a normal pack at that, one of the oldest packs that has lived in the states and is also the largest in the west.

It wasn't only werewolves I hated, it was all supernatural creatures and anything related to the supernatural world, not that I liked humans any more. I was the only one of my family to remain human while my brothers and sisters were the few vampires, werewolves and witches I can handle, along with their friends and families, and a few exceptions of my own friends. Very very few.

"Ana, are you done unpacking? Dinner's ready." Jo called from downstairs.

Josephine and Mathew Keller were my human friends that accidentally got mixed up with the supernatural world and were running for their lives. They managed to escape with my sisters help and now moved here, to crap ville actually called Cora Ville or something or the other, to escape vampires.

My sisters' request was simple, stay with them for a while, keep them safe, help them build new lives and most importantly make them understand that the supernatural world should be kept a secret. How hard could this be? Babysitting, pfft, so easy.

I looked around my room, having arranged all my books, clothes and everything else that I require to survive this life of boredom and annoyance for the next few months are in place before I called back.

"I'm done, coming down." I look around once to more check that I had arranged everything as per necessity and skipped down the stairs.

Jo and Matt were already seated at the table and were waiting for me in front of steaming hot food that smelt absolutely delicious. Jo is a blonde, 32 year old who was slightly shorter than me at her height of 5'2, her hair fell down her back in curls which darkened at the end. Her face was slightly elongated and her green eyes sparkled every time she smiled. Matt was 35 years old and 5'11. He was well built, had his brown hair cut really short which was graying slowly but surely, brown eyes chargers darker when annoyed, a slightly crooked nose and he had a brown beard which made him look like a man much older than his actual age.

They both looked up when I entered the dining room, Jo smiled her wide teeth showing grin which could light up a room.

"I'm growing old waiting for you to come down." He grumbled, not as sweet as his wife. Yet I expected no less from him.

"Come eat sweetie." Jo called me over while she hit her husband on his head.

Jo's food is always brilliant. We dug in the minute my butt hit the chair, she had made spaghetti with red wine and let's just say that Matt lost in the game of 'who-can-eat-the-most' that we play between us. He has never won a game in the months I have known him. We laughed and spoke and looked like a normal family if anyone else had seen us, more carefree than they have been since this all started.
Once dinner was done and Jo gave each of a slice of her infamous apple pie, taking one for herself, I decided it was the time we brought up more serious topics.

"So, the ground rules. I'm going to lay it out for you, whatever happens, try not to break them."

Jo and Matt looked and each other. Anybody could see the fear, desperation, and anxiety in their eyes but they controlled their emotions from taking over them, one of the reasons I liked them, they did not whine like most humans in their situation would have. They had a silent conversation between themselves before nodding in agreement, whatever passes between them, only they could understand.

"We are staying on the Night King packs territory, by far they are the deadliest and largest pack in this continent and they can't stand vamps. They literally bite the leeches heads clean off if they are so much as a hundred yards near the border, so you will be safe here.

"Matt you'll be working in real estate and Jo you're a nurse in the town's only hospital if you do have any run-ins with the dogs you won't realize. They are very human, more human than actual humans. It is absolutely essential that you don't open your mouths about what you guys know because the Night King pack is known for their lack of understanding and let me reinstate, they are very strong and above all else they keep their secret, well, a secret, and will kill any human who has the slightest inkling of them.

"I am here to protect you, but I'll leave in a few months, once you guys have settled down that is. So as much as I love being your babysitter, while I am here I'm going to teach you how to defend yourselves. Alright?"

"Ana we really don't know how to thank you for everything you have done and everything you are doing for u-" Jo started.

"Urgh. I just asked if you understood. Yes or No?"

"Yes, we understand." Matt stated clearly annoyed I had cut Jo short, but he looked too deep in thought to retort back with anything else.

He wasn't the only one, Jo was in her own world too.

"And you guys have no problem with what I just said right?" I asked softly.

"No not at all, we just want to forget everything that has happened and start our new lives." Jo whispered.

I smiled knowingly, I knew what they were feeling, and I knew how it was to start a new life and how badly that new life can end all because of the oh so beautiful supernatural world. Still, let's be optimistic, these were good people.

"Well you can, your new lives here will be wonderful, but if anything goes wrong, you can tell me. For now, I'm gonna go to bed, goodnight."

"Good night" they both replied, holding each other's hands tenderly, wanting space and time to heal.

I got up and headed to my room, thinking about all the things I have yet to tell them about how to hide once I leave, how to protect themselves from dogs. The real reason as to why the vampires wanted their heads and why my sister was so fond of them. They still find it hard to wrap their heads around all the supernatural crap so giving them time is the best idea, but the sooner they knew the better.

I fervently hoped that these few months will be as boring and ordinary as it possibly could be. Don't get me wrong, I love cutting of vampire heads and fighting for those who could not, like humans. I loved it a little too much, feeling the thick blood flow through my fingers, watching their souls leave their bodies lifeless. But I had spilled far too much blood, supernatural or not, for my comfort and would like a break.

After all, that's not a lot to ask for, right?
