True Reason Of Veterans Day

November 11 is Veterans Day. A veteran is a soldier who has served his/her country. Thirty-five different countries fought in World War I. They fought for five years (from 1914 to 1918). The United States fought in the war from 1917 to 1918. Finally, the countries stopped fighting and the leaders signed an armistice. They signed the armistice on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month. The armistice meant that the war had finally come to an end. Americans were overjoyed to hear about the armistice. No more soldiers would die in the war. They could all come home. People went out into the streets and laughed and danced. They blew horns and whistles and rang bells. They sang songs and celebrated the homecoming of the soldiers. They thought that there would never be another war.

President Wilson made November 11 a holiday, to remember the end of the war. The holiday was called Armistice Day. At eleven o'clock in the morning, everyone stopped doing whatever they were doing. People were completely silent for one whole minute. This minute was to remember all the soldiers who had died in the wars.

The body of an unknown soldier was brought to America from the cemetery in France. His body was buried in a tomb at Arlington National Cemetery. The tomb was named the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The US was in three more wars after WWI: World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The name of the holiday was then changed to Veterans Day, as we know it today. The bodies of three more unknown soldiers were brought to the cemetery that day. On Veterans Day, there are special services at the Tomb of the Unknowns. Americans remember and honor all the veterans every November 11, since then and continued to today.

My note to any Veterans:

I'm sure I speak for plenty of Americans when I say this, but I'm truly thankful to any of you who have taken the most noble act and fought for your country. Words cannot describe how much that means to me. I hold a high respect for your courage and honor. I know there are plenty who left who weren't promised another day with their families. Many have lost brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, sons, daughters, etc.

I pray every night for the men and women currently serving our country. May God place a hedge of protection around you and your families. If you see this know I am truly grateful and that you are not and will not be forgotten. This thanks is of the smallest in comparison to your bold act to sacrifice your life for the good of this blessed country.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, JBae_33 ❤️
