Reflections

I'm a broken piece of glass,

Brutally edgy, sharp and jagged

I make people bleed when they come into contact;

It doesn't matter if they try to step on me

Or pick me up.

It is not my intention- just my state.

I'm a broken piece of glass, yes.

I reflect a variety of faces sometimes-

Complete with their deepest fears and darkest secrets,

And sometimes, those very faces see through me-

But I do nothing.

People see I'm jagged and broken, impossible to mend

Thousands like me lie shattered on the ground

Together we used to be the window to a cosy little home.

If they'd seen through me then,

They'd have seen a hearth,

A family and so much love-

Which have now probably faded

Into the dull stone wall of countless forgotten memories.

A broken piece of glass is all I am,

I lie on the ground, watching people walk by.

As my half-hearted futile search

For empty condolences ends-

I lie- I lie on the ground and

Watch the world.

I see them cheat, I see them cheated,

I see them abused, I see them abuse.

I see them stab, an inhuman light in their eyes...

I see them love and wonder what it's like.

I then see them shatter into a million pieces- so much like me.

I see them shred their vocal cords, screaming for mercy.

I see them smile even as their eyes show despair.

I see pretence everywhere.

Yet I do nothing- for I can't.

It's not my intention, it's just my state.

Nor is it my decision,

But just my state.
