Dylan's POV
I pulled up in front of my dad's house and leaned against the steering wheel. My dad is going to kill me for taking his car this morning. I turned the engine off and got out, breathing out slowly and watching the snow fall. I unlocked and opened the trunk as a hand went into my hair fluffy it slightly. "Dylan you took my car you goof ball." My dad's voice filled my ears and I knew he wasn't mad. I grabbed my equipment out and shut the trunk, turning to face my dad when I caught glimpse of the former mark that took over his body. I looked up to see into his green eyes and the pain that sat in them. I hugged him close and begin to cry, I missed my dad so much and now I'm home.
My dad picked my small frame up and carried me along with my equipment inside, setting us down I heard my Uncle Sam's familiar chuckle from the kitchen ring through the house. "So why haven't you been home?" I looked my dad dead in the eye and began to cry, and not like cute it was gross. "J-Jakob h-he." I couldn't get words out and felt pain shoot through me as I continued to cry. Arms wrapped out me and I calmed down a little and I began to tell them everything that had happened including the stuff with Josh. I could tell my dad was angry and was about to go full dad mode when you heard from Sam was "Dean it's not worth it she's out of there now and it seems like she has better friends." My dad held me close and petted my hair as I was lying with my head was on his shoulder. I looked up as a warm wash cloth was moved against my cheek and Sam was talking in a baby voice. "Uncle Sam I'm not a baby anymore!" I giggled and watched as my dad began to smile at the scene in front of him.
Sam finished washing my face and I got up to fix my hair suddenly remembering to meet my friends at Taco Bell. "I'm going to Taco Bell you want anything?" My uncle handed me money and said a few tacos and my dad shook his head no. I grabbed my set of car keys and went out to the carport. I got into my 2003 Ford Focus and turned the engine on giving it time to warm up. I plugged my phone into the AUX cord and filled the area with some chillstep.
I began to look back to the last time I was at this place.
~Flash back~
I was with my brother a week before he had died he really wanted a freaking crunch wrap. I remember going into the store with a bubbly 13 year old and how happy he was to get something he had never tried before. His smile lit up the room the moment we walked in, his brown eye were wide with excitement, and his blonde hair would not stop falling in his eyes. He had turned back to me his smile wide and showing his new black and green braces. "Dylan can I please get the crunchwrap and nachos?" I smiled and fluffed his hair a little "You can get anything Evan." He hugged me and ordered, halfway through, he quickly turned towards me "Can I get a freeze?" I nodded and he quickly ordered more. I was so lucky to have Evan he was the root of my smile.
~Flashback over~
And just as quickly as my smile came it faded knowing I'll never have that smile ever again. I changed gears and left for the bell of tacos. I let the memory play on repeat again and again till I had pulled into a parking spot. I leaned close to the steering wheel and let myself calm down before I stepped got out. I quickly turned the car off and swallowed my fear and got out. I opened the door and the same day played on repeat in my mind. I couldn't get the idea of my brother so happy waiting in line out of my head.
I waited patiently and looked around for the guys, seeing them nowhere I thought they had forgot when John's loud voice filled the room as the door opened. "How did you get lost in a tiny town looking for the only taco bell?" Steve was laughing at Josh. I giggled and stepped up to order, "What can I get for you today?" I looked into the dead eyes of the cashier. I looked around a bit then spoke. "6 soft tacos and a nacho bellgrande no beef, beans, with extra cheese." She tapped the screen a bit and looked back at me "Anything to drink?" I looked around more and nodded as I asked for a large.
I paid and stepped toward the soda machine as the guys ordered. I found a spot and sat down waiting for my name to be called. I took small sips and looked at my phone, no one I worked with remembers me, and no one knows it was me. Every time I was in here with Evan they knew me after I stopped working now that it's been 3 years it's like I'm a memory left in the past like Evan after the news had died down.
The guys began to move around me and the moment Josh sat down my name was called. I began to stand up when he kissed my head and said he'll get it. I looked down and played on my phone as he went to get my food. I played with the straw of my cup and watched the guys bullshit and shove each other at dumb remarks. I watched my world slow and watched all the happiness surround me.
Josh sat next to me again and I began to eat slowly covering my mouth as I ate. The guys kept laughing and hitting each other after dumb comments. It's like nothing was wrong for just a moment.
Josh got up and kissed my head again, "I'm going to refill my soda want me to get yours?" I picked up my cup and shook my head. "I need to be heading out to take my uncle his tacos." I got up and went to ask for a bag when a smaller girl looked at me. "I know you from somewhere?" I shook my head and went back to my table to put the tacos in the bag. Grabbing the tray and cup I threw them away and began walking out to my car when I heard a loud "DYLAN WINCHESTER!" I whipped around and saw the same small girl staring at me. "Um yeah that's me?" She ran up and gave me a hug, "It's me Mckayla remember we worked together years ago." The memory came and faded again as I pulled away. "Oh right but I have to go sorry." Out the door I slipped and to my car I went. Unlocking the door and putting the bag in the passenger seat I looked over and just the image of my brother sitting there gave me the chills. I started the car and began to back out as Josh waved from inside.
By the time I had gotten home I had felt beyond drained. I sat in the parking spot again and began to cry the weight of my brothers death just broke. It's been 3 years and it still hits close he was such a happy kid. Always smiling, only upset when we fought but that was rare. My head fell into my hands and just that day was playing in the back of my head.
I looked around the carport and turned the engine off, breathing lightly I got out of the car and went inside. I placed the bag on the table, hung my keys up and went to my room. I fell back onto my bed and let out a sigh. I was staring at the ceiling as the sound of tiny feet ran towards my door. "Dylan you left your stuff in the front room!" My cousin's high pitched voice said loudly from the doorway. I sat up and saw the small child holding my camera bag like you would a baby. I motioned her over to me and she set it down on my desk, "Dad said he'd bring the rest in a bit, what did you film today?" I looked over more at the desk and focused closely to a picture of Evan and I holding a small baby. "Well Rose why don't you sit over here and I'll tell you all about it." My cousins brown hair flopped in front of her pale face and she struggled up onto my bed. I watched her struggle a bit then I picked her up and sat her down.
'What do I tell a four year old? I fell in love? I was in a gross building?' The thoughts ran wild as she tugged on my jeans. "Okay so Josh and I went to this old school." She laid on her stomach and placed her head on her arms as I talked. "Was it a spooky school?" I nodded "The spookiest." She gasped and I continued to talk. "It was a school I used to go to. It was weird cause one of my old paintings was there on the wall still." She looked as if she was super into the story. "Wanna see?" She sat up and nodded quickly as I grabbed my laptop and camera bag. I looked back at her and smiled, my cousin was my second chance of being an older sibling. She was born a year before Evan died and now she's old enough to know Evan isn't coming back but she doesn't understand why.
I took the SD card out of my camera and slipped it into my laptop as I opened the software to play the video. I pressed play and stood up. "I'll be right back I'm going to get my backpack don't move." She nodded and I slipped out the door and down stairs. I looked around the house and everything hit me like a rock. Though Evan was gone the vibes through the house never changed. My family never split apart, we were sad but never let the sadness turn to anger or tried to act about any thoughts that were in our minds. Even though he's gone dad's still the strong man we grew up to know, uncle Sam never lost his light and little Rose stayed a cheery kid to cheer us all up. Dad holds me close though, like he's scared to lose me too he almost has on many occasions but I'm still here. Nothing will stop this Winchester, nothing can break me down, nothing will stop me from being me.
I stopped thinking about everything and grabbed my backpack and went back upstairs to Rose asleep in a nest she had made while I was down stairs and the video still playing. I tucked her in the rest of the way and moved my laptop to my desk where I sat down to begin the ever long editing process.
