Wanna Know A Secret?

Chapter Two

The next morning I was dreading seeing James. I'm so embarrassed, I wish I could hide in a closet and stay there for the rest of the day. "Here ya go." Vince placed a plate in front of me. Even the bacon and pancakes can't lift my spirits right now. "Hey, you OK?" He asks.

I nod. "Yeah, why?" I asked. He chuckled.

"Well, for one, you didn't smile at the sight of food. Let alone, bacon. So, obviously somethings wrong." He smiled a cocky smile.

I laughed. He really knows me well, every since I was a kid even the sight of bacon made me go crazy. "Ha ha!" I joked. He smiled, sat down and started eating his food as James came downstairs.

He sat down in front of his plate, next to mine, and immediately began eating his food. It bugged me but also made me feel relieved that he didn't even look my way. "What's up, bro?" Vince asked. Where was the tension? Bro, your best friend made a move on me last night. Does no one remember this or do they just not care anymore?

"Nothing, just, uh . . ." He slows down and clears his throat. He looks James in the eye a second or two longer than normal. Vince's eyes widen for a split second and he cocks one of his eyebrows questionably. "I have to visit some friends; they need my help with something important." James says.

"Oh." Vince comments.

James stands and heads to the closet, his plate barely touched, pulling out his jacket. "Hey, want to come? I'm sure they could use your help." He asked. Vince quickly shoved down his food. Or, well, tried to. He only finished one out of two pancakes and all his bacon.

Vince gave me a quick peck on the forehead, mouth probably stilled filled with food. Before I knew it, they were gone. Seriously? Is something going on I don't know about? I honeslty half expected Vince to talk to me about what happened last night. Eventually, I finished my food and decided today id bum it out and stay in my pajamas.

Later the next morning

"NO! STOP!" I sit up on my bed breathless; I'm shaking uncontrollably and sweating all over. I look out the glass sliding doors in my bedroom and hear a constant noise against the glass, "Knock... tick... knock..." I almost thought someone was throwing pebbles at my window but... It's just storming so badly, its hailing. Rain always has a way of relaxing me, but when I'm sleeping it brings nothing but nightmares. I checked the time, its 1:23 in the morning.

I ran to my brother's room and knocked on his door. I hadnt seen him all day yesterday every since he left with James. I didnt get a single text or phone call from either of them. After a minute or two passing by I knocked again . . . and again and again. All up to the point where I just open his door and barg in. It's completely dark in here. "Vincy?" I call out.

I turn on the lights to see his neatly made up bed. What? Its one in the morning, where is he? This is ridiculous. They've been gone every since nine o'clock . . . In the morning! Yesterday!

What could be so important to where you'd leave your baby sister all alone for hours? The more I think about it the more I worry. What if they're hurt? What if they got in an accident? I hope James didnt take his motorcyle. I pull out my phone and dial Vince's number.

After about twelve rings he answers, "Yeah?"

"VINCE! What the bloody hell?!" I shouted down the phone.

"Baby sis, ill be home in a minute, alright? I'm sorry, I have to go." He talked in a hushed tone.

"Why are you whispering- Vince?" The line was dead. I threw the phone down on the bed. What is going on? And I can't believe he hung up on me!

An hour later, im still awake. I probably wont be getting any more sleep. Im just too worried, confused and honestly pissed off. My brother and James have always been so secretive like this. The past week or so though havnt been, so I havnt given it much thought. I wonder what changed.

Just then, the doorbell rung. I ran downstairs and immediately opened the door hoping it was Vince or more practically James, Vince has a key, so he wouldnt be ringing the doorbell. Well, I was right. James walked in, completely soaked and shacked his head around, getting water everywhere. The way his hair stuck to his forehead was undoubtedly attractive.

"Hey-" He grabbed my hand, making me jump a little, he was so... cold. "Vince upstairs?" He asked. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"What? No, you don't know where he is?!" I yelled. His eyes bulged out and his mouth dropped a little. Then he chuckled nervously, a forced small smile on his face.

"Ha, ha. No, I know where he is." He opened the front door; I grabbed his arm to stop him. So toned . . .

He looks me in the eye. "Don't lie to me." I say. He opens his mouth to say something. Then... he just doesnt. He just stares for a minute. Looks at the door... or, looks at my hand holding onto his arm and then back to me.

With his left hand, he wraps his hand around my neck and pulls me closer. He kisses my forehead and says, "Go to bed. We'll be back before you know it." He strokes my cheek with his thumb and stares down at my lips for a moment, but turns, opens the door and runs out to his car.

Knowing he can't hear me, I whispered, "Be safe." The storming didn't stop until later on that morning. Even after the storm though, I couldn't sleep... I couldn't stop thinking of . . . James. And of course my growing anger for both of them.
