I stood up, and heard Rick talking. I looked over at him. He was talking to beth, but then she walked away. "do you know where Carol is?" I asked. "I'm afraid she isn't here...." he said.
"Did she.... um.... pass... on?" I managed to say. "no, she didn't" he said while looking down.
"Then where is she?!?" I demanded. "She left the group." Rick said in a weird tone of voice. "did she leave, or get kicked out?" I asked.
"I'm sorry Carter, but you shouldn't be asking these questions. this is adult business." he said while turning around, and walking away.
"Hey Carter." said Carl. "hi." was all I said. "What should we do?" "I don't know..." I said.
I was getting bored. All we do is try to survive. It's been almost 31 days without an accident.
I wrapped my arms around Carl, and started to cry. "what's wrong?" he asked. "nothing." I said.
I was just really sad about Carol. "Tell me of you need anything, ok?" Carl said. "ok." I responded.
He walked away, and I sat down on the cold ground. "Why are you on the ground?" Beth asked as she walked to me.
"No reason." I said. She slowly nodded. "do you like to sing?" asked beth. "I used to." I said with a smile.
"When we first came to the prison, Maggie and I sang a song called the parting glass. My daddy always smiled when we would sing." she said.
"Can I hear you sing?" I asked. "only if you sing along." she said.
I nodded as she started to sing. "Of all the money that e'er I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm I've ever done
Alas it was to none but me
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
And gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
But since it fell unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all
Good night and joy be to you all."
"You have an amazing voice." I told Beth. "you do too." she replied.
