*coughs* so the Isla de las muñecas literally translates to "Island of dolls" and as it stands for it name its literally an island full of dolls hung around the island. This island is located south of Mexico city, between the canals of Xochimico this small island has a sad background and surprisingly is a tourist destination as well. There is very well a legend that a little girl drowning near the canal of the Island. The truth behind the legend is that a man named Don Julian Santana Barrera was the caretaker of the small island. The story goes that Don Julian found a little girl drowned under mysterious circumstances as he wasn't able to save the little girl, shortly after he found a doll floating above the canal water as he grabbed it and put it on a tree to show respect and support of the little girls spirits. (Fun fact!: Mexicans tend to have great respect towards the dead, as they would leave offerings and food for the deceased for them to eat) some people do question if the story of the drowning of the little girl is true. Don Julian apparently haunted by the spirit of the girl and started hanging more dolls in an attempt to please her spirit.He soon realized the dolls themselves were possessed by the spirits of dead girls, and continued to collect creepy dolls hanging them over the entire island.
According to those close to him, it was as if Julian was driven by some unseen force that completely changed him. Its also said that people that have visited the island can hear the dolls whispering to one another
Apparently he was very marked by the fact that he was not able to save the little girl's life.After 50 years of collecting dolls and hanging them on the island, Julian was found dead, drowned in the same spot where the girl did.
