Chapter 28: The Decision

Sue POV

We've been here for almost an hour with nothing. I'm beginning to lose hope when I see the beams light begin to fluctuate.

Tenzin: "This is it. He's deciding." Everybody goes quiet. The tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I see his eyes begin to grow bright, then they all cut off completely, I see his wounds begin to close, they don't heal fully, there are still deep gashes and wounds throughout his body, but they look survivable. I walk up near him... And see his eyes flutter open. I couldn't believe it. I turn back and see Korra laying there with wide eyes, although it was obvious she was exhausted. I hear M/N grunt. I turn back and see him standing.

Sue: "How are you standing?" I asked shocked. He walks right by me and towards Korra. He gets on Oogies tail and Oogie helps him up. I see him kneel down to her. He plants a small kiss on her lips before collapsing next to her. I see Korra fall asleep next to him. I couldn't help but smile at the scene in front of me. He came back. I see everybody else with smiles on their faces. We all get on Oogie and head back to the airship.

Your POV

Raava: "She dies in her sleep, because of you..."

I jump awake and see I'm in a bed, then I feel it. Pain, oh gods the pain. I lay back down and it gets slightly better. Then I hear my stomach rumble. Ok, really? Now? I groan and sit up again. I see I'm in black shorts and my torso is mainly covered in bandages. I try and stand twice before I finally get up. I lean against the wall and realize I'm back at the air temple. I use the wall to help me get to the kitchen, but before I can reach it I feel sick to my stomach. I get to the bathroom seconds before I puke, I look to see it's blood. Probably from my wounds. After the sickening feeling subsides I finally make it down to the kitchen. I look out the window and realize it's probably around 2 in the morning. I look through some of the cabinets before I find a basket of rolls with a small note on it. I take it to the table and sit down before reading it. 'For M/N when he wakes up starving in the middle of the night. -Pema' I couldn't help but laugh. Although I stop shortly after because of the pain. I sit there in silence and finish the rolls. I was about to go put the rolls away and walk back to my room when I hear someone.

???: "M/N?" I groan.

You: "If you're here to kill me I'd really appreciate it if you didn't."

???: "M/N, come here. It's me." Wait, I don't remember Korra's room being so close to the kitchen.

You: "Korra?" I knock on the door lightly.

Korra: "Come in." I open the door and see her laying there, I also see a wheelchair near her bed. I remember what the spirits said.

You: "Hey, how's it goin'?" She pats the side of her bed gesturing for me to lay next to her. I walk over and lay down with a grunt.

Korra: "Still a little sore?" She says smiling.

You: "Yea, but considering I was basically dead, uhh, how many days have I been out?" She thinks for a minute before responding, which can't be good.

Korra: "Close to a week maybe?"

You: "Well, I guess that seems about fair." I say nodding.

Korra: "Hey M/N, guess what?" Oh no, this can't be good.

You: "What?"

Korra: "Your awake just in time for President Raiko's celebration for the defeat of the Red Lotus. It's, well, I guess it's technically tonight at 7 since it's 2:30 in the morning."

You: "Oh, uh, sorry Korra my uhh. Ohh Ahh, yea see my uh, arm, yea my arm still hurts. Sorry, I don't think I'll be able to go."

Korra: "Ok, but try telling that to Pema, Sue, or Lin tomorrow."

You: "Awww man. Why do I have to go?" I ask rhetorically. But, of course, Korra responds anyways.

Korra: "Because you beat them dummy." Thanks for that Korra.

You: "Ok, but if I beat them, and don't want to go, shouldn't I be given, like, a pass or something?" She looks at me before she bursts out laughing.

Korra: "No, you and me are the reason they're throwing the celebration. You need to be there." I groan again.

You: "But I don't wanna go." I say pouting.

Korra: "Awww, is my big strong man all sad because he has to go to a party being thrown in "our" honor?" I make a stupid face at her only to be met with a small wave of fire narrowly missing my face. I look back and see her lay on my chest. "Don't piss me off when I'm tired."

You: "Um, yea, agreed." She laughs lightly. I wrap my arm around her and close my eyes, ignoring the pain of her head on one of my wounds.

Korra: "Hey M/N?"

You: "What is it Korra?"

Korra: "Can I ask you a question?"

You: "Fire away."

Korra: "Why'd you come back? I know that you could've been with your family. So why did you choose to come back?" Well she could definitely use this against me some day.

You: "You. I came back because of you, Korra." She looks up at me, then leans in and kisses my cheek lightly. I kiss the top of her head as we lay here. I know whoever the spirits were talking about. He's coming. But I came back for a reason. I'm not going anywhere, Korra. I'm staying here to protect this world... And you. As long as I am breathing, I won't let anyone hurt you like this again, Korra, you were the spark, in my world of dark, and I will help you heal. I came back to this world for a reason, you were that reason Korra. You were the first person since my sisters died to treat me as family. You made me talk about the past. A past I wanted no part of. I have no doubt been through an excruciating amount of pain since I met you. But I would go through it over and over again if it meant being with you. Because, Korra. "I love you." I say to her sleeping form. "It took me a while to realize it no doubt. But I love you Korra, and I promise. I'll never leave your side. No matter what. I will go through hell and back if that's what it takes."
