---After the mishap, outside the emergency room ---

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He had been waiting outside the godforsaken operation theatre for eternity, in anticipation of the outcome. He had never been so scared in his life. He felt his throat constricted as if his lungs were unable to take in as much air as he needed to breathe. The sickening feeling in his gut and the twinge of guilt in his heart were gnawing at him.
Never in his entire life, he thought that he would have to come across such a situation. There was an immeasurable amount of anxiety, stress, and tension that had build upon him, which was on the verge of breaking loose. He felt that if he was not anxious, he would have to face the worst of his nightmares. A plethora of emotions playing in his mind. He wished he could scream at the top of his voice until his Adam's apple lost the ability to produce sound.
He wished he could just sleep and wake up, only to find that it was one of his nightmares. Though weariness had taken over him, he kept himself awake, fearing that if he closed his eyes for a moment, everything would vanish with just a flick of his finger.
It was getting hard for him to breathe. He felt as if he was gasping for air, not because he was facing breathing difficulties, but because each breath took effort. He could feel a wave of rage mixed with the fear surge through his body. He felt as if his nerves were on fire as he found himself shaking, losing his control. His fists were clenched, nails digging deeper into his palm. He wanted to punch something or throw something rather than sitting outside the emergency room, waiting for the doctor to come out from the other side to deliver the news.
The anticipation was making him nauseated. He had been waiting outside for hours which seemed like an eternity to him. His mind was racing with panic. For the first time in his life, he felt worthless as there was nothing in his hand that he could do.
He wanted to cry, weep with all his being. The feeling of trepidation and helplessness disgusted him to the core. Every passing second seemed like a perpetuity. He felt as if time had stopped. He was terrified to live through the next moment in fear. He had never experienced such grotesque fear in his life. Every single heartbeat was like an eternity in hell.
Fear.
Along with love, there was fear, which he wished he never had to go through.
The fear of losing him.
The fear of him leaving.
The fear of not waking up beside him.
And how could he not, the one on the other side of the operation theatre, combating death, was his beloved wife.
(Not was, is. IS)
While he was engrossed in his thought, the door of the emergency room opened. The doctor stood in front of him. He stood up quickly, adrenaline rushing through every cell of his body, as he looked at the doctor, with the hope of some good news.
"How is he?" His voice quivered while asking.
The doctor hung his head low.
'No. This cannot happen. NO!!!!!!'
