added as the fifth member of red velvet, debuting at a really young age, yerim has faced many hardships along her way to where she is right now ― harsh and cruel comments from some red velvet fans themselves, who prefer to have a 4-member girl group; crude comments from fans who view her sexually despite her age; violent comments from some and worse, degrading comments from fan of other fandoms due to her interaction with other male groups. all the negativity that yerim faced since her debut definitely did some harm to her, where she ended up crying on camera before when she confessed about peoples' judgement has affected her terribly.  yet most of the comments were from fans that ship jeongguk with other female idols, commenting on what a terrible person yerim is, how ugly she is and other mean stuff. of course, the girl has barely done anything to suggest that she's interested in the male, but she ended up on the bad end of everything, which is why jeongguk feels terrible. 

he met her through a mutual friend, jung yoon-oh, or also known as jaehyun, who is 97-liner just like the male himself. being in the same entertainment as yerim, and also, best friends with the female, jaehyun has introduced both idols to each other when jeongguk paid the male a visit one day. a glance at-first-sight became a crush eventually, as the two stay in touch, meeting up secretly at nights to loving her and wanting her to be totally his. jeongguk has conveyed his love to her many times, which only ended up being rejected simply because yerim knows how his fans will be upset and disappointed. 

"i don't want your fans to be angry with you, jeon-ah; imagine the looks on their faces if you ever announced you are in a relationship with me, they have been the ones supporting you for such a long period of time; you can't just drop such news on them," that's her answer every single time, and jeongguk never fails to fall harder for her. her selflessness and continuous thinking for his fans and him always impresses her ― how can a girl like her who faced so much hatred continue to be so loving and caring towards others? jeongguk definitely does not deserve her.  but to the male, he wants her; he simply wants to show the world how much she means to him and how much he loves her, but the situation he is in always stops him from doing so. every time the male attempts to think of ways to let her be with him, he always ends up being frustrated by the fact that she will be hurting the most, the fact that he can't do anything to protect her from the cruel and harsh world. he simply wanted a simple love life with her; he wanted them to know how happy she makes him, but he can't. 

the endless chasing from the male always seemed to be stopped and rejected from yerim, but he never gives up until he made his feelings for her widely known to public at their shared concert stage in singapore ― trailing after her like a lost puppy, staring at her obviously and all others sorts of actions. jeongguk was done hiding the fact, he was done hiding the fact that he loves her more than anything else. with his birthday coming up, the male decided to confess again through a song that pretty much speaks for him.

he's willing to go the extra mile for her ― even if it means losing some fans or receiving hatred comments from them. he will do anything for her, if she will be his.

whenever she's sad, he will be equally as sad. jeongguk remembers feeling sad whenever yerim is sad.  he remembers holding her in his arms during the days when she breaks down about how much negativity she is receiving, and how she was so tempted to end everything through suicide, and the male cried, begging her not to do anything harsh and count on him during her difficult times. it was that night where they shared their deepest vulnerabilities to each other with tears, in each other's embrace.
