(Aiden's POV)

'Ugh, my head...'

I lifted my head groggily, almost like I was awaking from a deep dream, attempting to scan my surroundings before my vision had come into complete, clear focus.

Everything looked fuzzy as I opened my eyes slowly, wincing from the pain in my side. The small, square-shaped dimly lit room swirled with shadows, caused by the single swinging light that constantly flickered above my head. The twirling dark figures, twisted flickering copies of myself only brought back reminders of that dream- no, nightmare hovering in my mind, appearing in my gaze every time I closed my eyes.

I was shaken from my thoughts to a groan from behind me, in a corner of the plain box like room.

Wait?

Lukas?

I felt anger boil up and I gripped my hands into fists. The... people grabbed and took me, but I was holding onto the hope that they would have left the others. And if Lukas was here...

'Then Jesse has to be somewhere here too."

I crouched down next to Lukas, shaking his shoulder as I looked round the room for any means of escaping.

"Lukas! Dude, come on."

His eyes fluttering open, he looked up at me in confusion. His eyes opened wide with fear as he recognised me.

"Aiden? What the hell are you doing here?" He snapped out of his waking state and jumped up, standing defensively with his back pressed against the wall.

I stood there, mouth slightly agape in confusion. Then I made the realisation.

"Oh, of course," I snapped my fingers and offered up a small smile. "Me and Jesse both fell over the edge due to a creeper explosion. We found you, and kept you safe while you recovered."

I could tell he didn't fully believe me, and I knew he had every reason to feel that way. Heck, if I was in his position, being in a room with someone who almost destroyed an entire city, I wouldn't believe me either.

But I really needed his help with this, so I quickly added to my statement. "I promise, I was there, I was just outside whilst you were in the shelter with Jesse."

I tried hard to not let the bitterness show with that last statement.

He shook his head, blonde locks falling over his eyes, almost like he was trying to displace the information in an effort to rid himself of it.

"But... were there not monsters outside?"

"Sure, but someone had to be lookout for you two."

He was silent for a moment before sighing and tuning away to face the walls, hand resting on the flat surface for support.
"So what now, I'm just supposed to think of you as the good guy?"

I could tell he was being serious, but I couldn't help but see a hint of the old Lukas, the one who joked with me before I became so obsessed with leadership and power. So I couldn't help but come back with a slight retort of my own.

"That's the gist of it, yeah." I gave him a little smirk, and mimicked him by turning away. "I'm super cool now. Jesse thinks so, which means it must be true."

At the mention of her name, Lukas' eyes widened once again, spinning round as he took in the sight of the entire room.

He spun round to face me when he failed to see Her.

"Where is she?" He half shouted, the concern clear in his voice as he ran his hand through his blond hair in worry. "What did those people do to her?" His voice cracked slightly at the end  of his sentence and he balled his fists, weirdly similar to me only minutes prior.

"Lukas, I don't know." I stepped over and placed a calming hand on his shoulder.

Who would have ever thought of this? The hot headed one comforting the calm, collected leader. What's next, flying pigs?

"But let's make a plan to break out and find her." I held out my arm for a handshake.

"Agreed?"

He placed his palm in my own.

"Agreed."
