The sun was coming over the horizon as I woke up. Its rays were like swords cutting through the curtains into my room. The sun, my antagonist, shined into my eyes and disturbed my peaceful dreams. Dreams that I have been wishing to come true. Dreams that, no matter how hard I try, they can never be tangible.
I was glad last night was one of the rare quiet dreams.
I squited my eyes while trying to adjust to the brightness. Of course, the single ray of sun had to shine on my eye. With my luck, it somehow always happens that way.
The room was awefully quiet this morning. Not a single bird chirped. No brother was screaming.
Even the television was off.
I pulled off my covers unwillingly and silently put on my pink slippers. Mornings are the worst. I can barely think of anything but getting more sleep.
Though, it was 5 o'clock, the time in which I had to call my Mother about my departure.
I dialed her number and after one ring, somebody answered.
"Hello?" The voice barely had any emotion to it. If there was anything, it was probably being alarmed.
"Hey Mom," I smiled softly even though she can't see me. Last night, Liam's doctor told me, my Mother, and Max the conditions my brother was in. He had a cracked skull and a few broken ribs. His left wrist had been sprained along with his right elbow. His legs were strangely fine but Liam's pinky toe had been crushed and needed surgery immediatly before it would spread infection further. He was in a coma but should awaken in the next few weeks. There is no doubt he would be in pain when he wakes up.
If he wakes up. Thats what I was worried about the most.
As if reading my thoughts, my Mother's comment brought me back to my senses. "Liam's doctor told me he will definetly wake up. He just can't at the moment because if he wakes up now and moves, his body would get more damaged than ever. It'll become permanent." I sighed in relief, glad that I would see my brother's cheerful green eyes once again. They matched Leo's but had a stripe of brown in them.
That was one of the ways my Mom could differentiate the two. Besides the glasses of course.
And Liam's scarred body.
My thoughts were getting the best of me as a few tears slid down my pale cheeks. Just the thought of Liam's torn body makes me upset.
"That's great, Mom," I whispered back to her. "Anything else happened?"
"Well, the doctors won't give me a bed to sleep in so I had to sleep on a plastic chair they gave to me. Though, I am getting free lunch from the cafeteria today. The slushies are delicious!" My Mother said in a childish voice.
She always tries to cheer me up.
I laughed a small laugh, tears still crawling out of my eyes. Trust me, emotions are the worst.
"Alright Mom, I have to go and pack. If anything else happens, please let me know!"
"I love you, Avary. Bye." She said quickly before she hung up. I was gawking at the phone. The last time she told me she loved me was before everything happened two years ago. It meant the world to me when she told me she loved me. It gave me both confidence and hope. Happiness was above all of them.
Though, I couldn't be happy now. I had a mission to do.
I grabbed a dark blue bag from my closet and set it on my bed. I had packed my clothes last night, but I needed to pack everything I needed for today. My suitcase, which held Leo, Max, and my clothes, would not return until that night.
