Truthfully, this outcome is astoundingly practical. Time served sentencing? Two years probation with continued professional treatment? Stringent supervision prohibiting the defendant from contacting any victims or being near the school? Smart
What needs to happen is improvement in resources for at-risk youth. School officials and community representatives – those on the front lines with teens – must be aware and prepared to flag and then intervene before someone else runs afoul of the law.
Prevention is vital. Of course, there were signs. The are always signs. But people choose to ignore them. Not convenient. Far too busy. Their own lives are so much more important. So we need to build it into the system of accountability. Otherwise this is just so much spilled milk...
