Year 1998. . .
"Get her out! Go! Go!" Ms. Lorens called out between coughing.
Her eyes were red, and her hair was wet with perspiration. A dark figure tugged on Kara's arm and pulled her up. She watched her mother through the thick smoke, not knowing that it'd be the last time she would see her. The figure hustled around the house, jostling door handles, looking for a way out. A deafening scream echoed from a nearby room, followed by a monstrous growl. Kara cried. She wanted to see her parents. She was clueless, scared even. The heat from the fire was stinging her eyes, and her head was pounding. Her mind swirled around as the smoke filled the room.
"Mom!" she called out.
The figure hushed her and finally found a way out. Kara never felt so good about breathing in fresh air. She coughed as the figure put her down onto the grass. From the outline of its body, Kara figured it was a male. He ran back inside to rescue anyone else who'd suffered the fire. She watched as tall figures gathered around her. A tall, slim lady that she recognized as her aunt picked her up and ran towards the ambulance.
"She's only seven so be careful!" her aunt called out and ran back to the burning building. The paramedics took her into the ambulance, and she heard the sound of sirens as her mind blanked out.
