Too Late

"Charlie, why are you pushing me away? Don't you understand? I love you, damn it! If you keep doing this, it won't matter how much I love you, we won't have much time together. You know situation we're in...with those zombies."

"Dave, you know I can't do this...not now."

"No, don't give me that. You've been saying that for the past two years. You don't understand that if you don't get whatever your feeling off your chest, your going to regret it. you know we don't have all that time left because you and I know that one day, they are going to burst through those doors and its just the two of us now. Christie, Johnny, Cane, Nava, all of them, they're all d..."

BOOM!!!

"Shit!!! They're are here! Come on charlie, we have to get outta here. There's too many of them."

"Okay, i'm coming."

I grabbed her hand and we ran for our lives. We can't fight them and win and we both know it. We might not live past this. We managed to get out of our hide...ex-hideout, but now we have nowhere to go. I can't give up, i have to do something to protect Charlie. I might not make it, but I want to do what i can to protect her.

"Come on."

I grabbed her hand and started running to...I don't know where. They were catching up. This isn't like the movies where the zombies are slow as hell. Nope, I wish, but not true. Although we've had practice running away from them, we will soon tire and they will keep coming regardless.

Before I could blink, a hand reaches out and grabs Charlie. It wasn't a zombie though, it was a human. We haven't seen a living being in so long, we ended up thinking we were the only ones left. But our happiness soon turns to suspicion. These are hard times and during hard times, even your fellow human beings can't be trusted because most of them are ruled by fear.

"Come on. I can get you somewhere safe. Hurry! I'll introduce myself later."

Charlie and I shared a look. We were skeptical, but it was either face the zombies alone or take a chance with some stranger. I don't know about you, but stranger it is.

He was already moving, not giving us a chance to respond, not that I blame him.

"Wait! We're coming."

We started following the stranger, but we were already worn out and tired, we were slowing down and that isn't good. All of a sudden, a zombie grabs at Charlie. All I could hear were her screams and their moans of hunger. I bashed my bat over it's head...did I mention I have a bat. If not then, I have a bat. That blow instantly killed the zombie, but that was just one and there's still a lot left. I pushed Charlie into the stranger.

"Get her to wherever you were taking us." and I ran into the mob of zombies.

I knew I couldn't win, but I could buy them time. That I was sure about. I heard her screaming, "No!!" as the guy drags her away.

The last thing I hear her say was, "No, please, I'm sorry. You were right. I should've told you before it was too late. I love y..."

I turn to look at her one last time and I see tears streaming down her face. Something bits into my shoulder and I blackout. I'm pretty sure she was going to tell me she loved me, but I already knew that. I didn't need her to say it to me, what I needed her to do was admit it to herself and she did. I'm happy for that. All I can do now is hope...hope that I left her in good hands. He is a stranger after all. I know she is strong and can protect herself from any dumb ass who try's to hurt her, but I can't stop myself from worrying. It's what you do when you care about someone, it's uncontrollable.

Oh well. Goodbye Charlie. I hope you survive. Even though I'm not there, please don't give up.
