My home

The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes, was your face resting peacefully on your pillow

My hand still holding yours in the tightest grip, unwilling to let go
Your blanket drawn up to your chin, all safe and warm, hidden from the outside world

Blissfully sheltered from all that awaits when you wake up
When I pull you close, I can hear your heart beat in your chest

Softly, slowly, and completely relaxed
Your face showing no sign of distress, your mind drawn into quiet dreams
For now, nothing will get to you
I wrap my arms around you, run my fingers through your hair

And as a sweet little smile spreads across your face, my mood matches yours

Even though my heartbeat rises and a little chuckle escapes my throat

My mind finds its utopia in the warmth of your bed

Still sleeping, your hand rediscovers mine, pulling it closer to your face
Our fingers intertwining, connecting us
With your hand still in mine, I caress your beautiful face

How was I lucky enough to have found you?
Not a single muscle in your face has retained last night's tension

All left behind us, hidden in the dark of night, left behind the front door

Seeing you next to me, surrounded by love and peace

Even the last bit of darkness disappears along with the retreating night sky
Reluctantly I let you go to get ready for another long day

Careful not to wake you from your peaceful slumber

I get up from the bed without taking my eyes off of you

Oh, how I'll miss you lying next to me

I know I won't be without you for that long, I know I'll see you soon
But every moment without you will forever remain one too many
Waking up in a cold and empty bed, you not being the first thing I see...
I hope those moments will soon seize to be

I get dressed, pack my bag and prepare myself to leave

Yet all of me screams at me, stay with him, go back to bed

Without me having any say in the matter, My body turns around

And heads back to our bedroom, back to you

I lean over you, once again running my fingers through your rebellious hair

Carefully kissing your sweet and soft face, you briefly wake up.

You turn your face towards me, without opening your eyes

And find my lips, providing me with one last kiss

As you whisper a soft and sleepy goodbye, I hold your face in my hands
I know it won't be long, but that didn't make it easier

I kiss your forehead once more, my face lighting up

When you tell me you love me too

Then and there did I decide that I will give you all

I will shelter you from any harm, protect you until my very last breath

I will not let anything get too close without putting up an all-in fight
Not a single obstacle will we fail to leave behind us, as I will pull you through

I will never leave you behind
No sword or bullet will ever reach your heart without going through mine first

I will stand in its way, doing whatever I can

For your heart does not deserve to hurt

Since it's your heart that made this house my home
