Dad wasn't handling anything well at that time, my baseball incident included. He was furious when Mom told him the news after she picked me up from practice. 

He screamed at me, face red and veins popping from his forehead. Mom and Mendel screamed back in my defense. My mistake was walking in-between the two parties in an attempt to stop their fighting. Dad screamed at me to get out of the way and when I didn't oblige, he reared his hand back to hit me. 

But in the end, he didn't strike me. He just stood there and broke down crying, hand still raised in the air and tears streaming down his cheeks.
