denial ⇒ part two

It began after Whizzer's funeral. We came back home for the reception and the house seemed...empty. It was as if a giant hole was missing. But at that moment, his death suddenly felt real.

Mom and Mendel stayed at our house for the first few weeks. Dad and I were both in denial and Mendel didn't think it was healthy for either of us to be alone. Mom had suggested having Cordelia and Dr. Charolette stay with us, but Mendel wasn't sure they would be stable enough themselves to take care of us.

We still were visited by the lesbians from next door nonetheless. Cordelia cooked us a dish. I don't remember what it was, but I remember we didn't eat it.
