His mind would always wander to the depths that it could go, the knowledge he had always at the tip of his tongue, brain brushing into old memories from time to time. Today was one of those precious days. The days where he could relax- Nope. While his eyes fluttered shut lightly, ready for his exhausted body to fall deeply into a soothing slumber, his brain had other ideas for him. He groaned, slapping a hand on his face while he thought of a memory.
The time when he was eight, innocently scrunching up his face at the coffee being made and drank my his father. He stood in the kitchen, swaying around restlessly, asking his father what he was drinking.
"What are you drinking?" He curiously tilted his head at the cup with something unfamiliar in it.
"Coffee." His father smiled, lowering the cup to allow his son to see the contents inside.
He breathes in a breath, scrunching up his face immediately and frowning.
"Ew. It smells gross!"
His father smiled fondly while he said that, lucky to have a son at such a pure age. But if only he knew what would happen to them both when they grew to an older age, different sets of minds...
The memory of the sweet, pure morning vanished. Namjoon was back to reality, his heart racing faster than before. With a quick jerk, he sat up on the bed while blankets still kept his legs warm and stuck on the bed. The bed was comforting, containing warmth and softness on the mattress. God, don't even get him started on the pillows... He was glad to be here rather than anywhere else. Although, sleep would not be stopping by today no matter how soft or heavenly the bed was. He lifted the blankets off of himself, swinging his long legs over the side of the bed. They landed softly on the ground as there was barely any room between Namjoon and the floor. His feet stumbled clumsily against the fading but smooth hardwood floor beneath him, boards creaking a slight amount as he walked uneasily, his weight shifting too much. His feet had dragged him to the kitchen, shivers immediately running up his spine.
He noticed no one was around, which didn't surprise him at all. It was dark outside, from what he'd been able to tell when he took a quick glance when he opened his eyes from his nap. The boys most likely had left hours ago, probably forced by Jin. Namjoon smiled at that thought, glad Jin was there to calm his friends and get them home. Probably around the time he mumbled about going upstairs, and numbly walked away from the boring movie which he'd already caught the plot of.
His brown eyes wandered around the kitchen, his eyes eventually meeting up with the sight coffee pot on the counter. Half filled with coffee, he let an ironic smile fall on his face. He shuffled over to the pot while gripping on the counter to stop himself from falling over. Luckily, he'd left his coffee cup on the dirty counter where the coffee pot sat. The counter was once a pure, bright white, but had slowly worn off over the months of spilled coffee, soups, sugar, and other weird things. He hadn't bothered to clean the counter lately, his mind preoccupied but thoughts bigger than himself...
He rubbed his eyes while he managed to successfully pour his coffee in a cup. A longing sigh left his pink lips, preparing himself for the coffee... He took a small sip, setting it down quickly, creating a bigger mess on the counter it seemed. He yelped, touching his lips with his fingers. The coffee was hot? It was almost completely fresh, as it burned his tongue and lips. He stood there, thinking about how it could be. He made coffee this morning! It could not be hot now. He stared intensely at the coffee pot, not hearing the door open at all until he heard voice... and yelped again, whipping around to face whoever it was.
He faced an exhausted Jin, rubbing his eyes and a quick yawn escaping his mouth for a second. Though, after a second he seemed to perk up slightly at the sight of Namjoon.
