Sang is chosen for the Culling, a series of fights to the death that are generally played by men. In fact, Sang is the first woman selected, well, ever. As the games start, and Sang forms bonds with a group of nine men, she comes to realize that the...
"Ok, thanks..." I said slowly as I moved aside so my uncle could stand up and readjust his clothes, they had become disarrayed during his breakdown. "Can I go sit down now please?"
Owen cleared his throat and moved aside while Sean straightened up, wincing, as I shuffled over to the table and sat back down. My uncle followed along behind me, and I noticed that Sean had paled slightly at his approach.
"I don't envy you, Mr Gentreau." Dr Riordan said suddenly, I forgotten that he was even here still. "You get to deal with nine of them. Lucky you."
Uncle Lucas sighed in response.

I focused on the sound of Sang's soft breathing, she was in a deep sleep. Every once in awhile her brow would crease in the most adorable way in reaction to some unknown event. No one else was awake at the moment, so I felt like I had all the time in the world to study her. I felt like I could do this forever.
I knew that I was grinning like an idiot, but I couldn't help myself. Just like I couldn't stop my hand from reaching out and tracing the curve of her shoulder with my fingertips. She shivered slightly in her sleep and I chuckled under my breath. I did the moment again, and got the same reaction.
Her skin was so soft, and she looked so sweet. She was so sweet.
It didn't take long for me to realize that my initial assumptions about Sang had been correct. She was fun, curious and intelligent - not to mention beautiful, tiny and fragile. She appeared as if she was a delicate piece of perfectly shaped porcelain that could shatter at any time, but what she had within her was the ferocity of a lioness. No matter what life had thrown at her, she always bounced back better than before.
My grin vanished as I remembered that life life had thrown a lot of crap at her too. I would do everything I could to make sure nothing else ever happened to this amazing woman, but we had to get through the games first. I just hoped she wouldn't break in doing so...
I didn't like that train of thought and I shook my head to get the visions of Sang, mangled and broken, out of my brain. Nothing would happen. I would make sure of it, just like I planned on dedicating every day for the rest of my life to making her laugh.
