*~*~*

Scarlett was slowly getting more and more used to simply not acknowledging Sirius, James, Remus, and Peter. She couldn't exactly say that it felt nice to ignore them; especially Remus. But she did have Dallas now, and Sirius was apparently still with Melissa from what she'd heard.

The thing was, Scarlett didn't want to hear their stupid apologies. After all, actions do speak louder than words. All she really wanted was for them to show her that they really cared. If they were simply telling her of the fact, who's to say they're not just lying?

"Scarlett, you alright?"

She turned to look at Dallas, a genuine smile appearing on her face just from looking at him.

"I'm great, Dallas."

He smiled sweetly, tentatively grabbing her hand. Just as Sirius walked in.

He saw them sitting on the couch, Scarlett leaning on his shoulder slightly. Sirius closed his eyes on a pain that wasn't physical, yet hurt just as much, if not more.

"I still can't believe you're mine," He heard Dallas say in a breathy tone.

Sirius forced his eyes open. She's not yours, he though, she's mine.

He did his best to look confident- happy, even -as he walked up to go to the boys dormitory.

As he looked over his shoulder briefly, discreetly, he came to the saddening realization that Scarlett hadn't even spared him a glance, too caught up in Dallas.

*~*~*

"She's over me, Moony!" Sirius exclaimed, though still quiet.

Remus rolled his eyes.

"And she has every right to be, Sirius. Scarlett is an amazing girl. She promised to wait for you for what, two years? And over a bet. She was dedicated to you, Sirius. She was willing to do whatever she could to make you happy. But you, Sirius? You did the exact opposite. Even I'm disappointed in you for messing up so terribly."

Sirius groaned, thoughts of both Scarlett and Melissa swirling through his head. He wondered briefly why he was still even with Melissa. Why he had even gotten with her in the first place.

"I messed up really bad, didn't I, Moony?"

"Afraid so."

"I shouldn't have taken that dumb bet. Maybe it'd be me hugging her, not him," he sneered.

James, who was sitting in the corner but still paying attention, shrugged.

"I mean, even I have to admit that Dallas is a great guy. Scarlett definitely deserves someone who will keep her together, not tear her apart."

Sirius gaped at James. He did think that his best mate would've taken his side at least, before he realized that no one was on his side.

And for good reason too, he thought.

*~*~*

Dallas smiled to himself. Sirius Black's loss was his gain, he guessed. While Dallas may not love Scarlett quite yet, he could definitely see it in the future.

He remembered the days where he would have to take care of her. It was stressful, but it was all worth it in the end.

After simply admiring Scarlett for five years, she was finally his. It was everything he had hoped, being in a relationship with Scarlett. She was a lovely girl. Dallas thought that even her flaws were perfect.

The suspicion of Scarlett only using him as a distraction had crossed his mind before, but he quickly pushed those thoughts back.

Yet he still couldn't help but think that if Black did somehow get her to forgive him, Scarlett would go running back in a heartbeat.

And Dallas had no intention of letting that happen.

*~*~*

"He was saying horrible things about you. I couldn't stand having to even listen to it," Dallas told Scarlett.

She frowned. "Like ripping me apart wasn't enough? Now he's spreading lies and rumors about me?"

"Babe, you'll understand when I say I don't want you talking to him. Or any of the other Marauders, for that matter."

Scarlett looked up and nodded silently in understanding and agreement. She figured Dallas was only doing what he felt was necessary to prevent her from getting hurt again.

She knew he'd never do anything like that out of pure selfishness. Dallas just wasn't that type of person, she felt. He had never shown anything except kindness, love, and understanding toward her.

When Scarlett turned, Dallas couldn't help but let out a breath in relief. He felt as though he had done what had needed to be done in order to protect Scarlett. Even if he did have to lie, it wouldn't matter in the long run. All that mattered was that Scarlett, his Scarlett, was okay and as far from harm as he could possibly get her.

Dallas did not feel the need to share the fact that, in his mind, 'harm' was just another word for Sirius Black.
