Once another morning I wake up to the calm sound of rain. I drag myself to get out of bed before I fall back asleep because I have to make my way to the diner to open it up early for the breakfast shift.
I wake up and drag myself to the shower like a zombie and force myself to actually wake up in the shower. After a nice relaxing shower that woke up my muscles, i quickly grab a protein bar and head out the door to start work.
Its pouring out, literally. Thank god I wore my hair in a simple sock bun this morning otherwise my hair would've been ruin in this dreadful weather.
After the short walk that felt like hours, i arrive to work to greet my step-mother.
"Its about time you showed up. Now start the coffee and don't burn it like usual." she scolded me like she always does.
"I'm only 5 minutes late because its storming out. But yes mam," I replied to her sarcastically.
"Don't use that tone with me, Ella. You can pay for your education on your own if that's the case." she warns me.
She doesn't even pay for my education, my father does. She just sucks the money up for herself and spends it all on fake crap she doesn't need while my father works hard to give her want ever.
"You can't threaten me like that! My father is the one who pays for all your sh-" I'm cut off by my father walking into the kitchen.
"Whats going on in here?" my father asks as he puts his business folder down.
"Oh you know, your great wife is just threatening to not pa-" I'm cut off again by my disgusting step-mother.
"Oh nothing sweetheart. We're just talking about new recipes and what to add to the menu this Spring, that's all," she tells my father with a disgusting fake smile.
"Oh how nice of you two to plan like that! I was going to hire a new chef to help prepare stuff like that, but it looks like you've got it covered! What have you've come with?" my father asks me.
I look at his face with my blank one and I see my step-mother behind him giving me a look I know. If I don't agree with her and support what she said, shes going to completely cut me off and not pay me again this month, which I can't afford to have happen again. I'm forced to go along with her lie.
"Oh its nothing. I don't want to ruin anything for you dad. But don't worry, its mixed in with lots of fruit!!" I tell him.
I hate lying to my father. But if I tell him the truth, she'll deny it like she has been doing for the past 10 years and make up some stupid believable story that my dad will believe and i'll be forced to look like an idiot....again.
Just as my father gives me the same sweet smile he always does. My co-worker Tyler walks in for work.
"Sorry i'm late Mrs. Jones!! Its coming down like cats and dogs out there. Oh and Mr. Jones!! Its so nice to see you!" He walks in and tells my parents. Well, parent.
Tyler is amazing. I've had the biggest crush on him since hes worked here. We've gone out together a few times, but defiantly only as friends. He isn't big on the whole dating thing.
"Tyler! I'm glad you could make it!! Don't worry about it, its early in the morning and we're not open for another 15 minutes," my ugly step-mother tells him.
I look at her with my arms crossed and my mouth slightly opened. I turn around and throw the dish towel on the counter and walk away.
"Whats wrong with her?" I overhear Tyler ask my parents.
"Nothing. Shes just stressed about some things throughout the diner, that's all" she replies for me apparently.
My step-mother was nice to me until I was about 14 years old and I started to gain my own independence. Whenever I tried to do something on my own, she would punish me and bring me down.
I stayed in the back of the kitchen until the store was open and I had to wait on tables. All day I didn't talk until lunch came.
Until a tall broad man walked in with a beautiful girl with different colored hair who looked like a model and sat down at the first table.
I just stared at him, not sure on what to do.
"Well, are you going to serve me or stare at us?" he rudely remarked.
"Uhh sorry, i'm supposed to sit you so I could clean this table first." I told him and lifted up the dirty towel I had in my hand.
"I don't care about the table, it's not even dirty. I just want to order. Can we please get some Pepsi?" he asked me like it was obvious he wanted it.
"Sure, coming right up. Diet or regular?" I asked before I turned back around.
"I asked for Pepsi, not diet Pepsi. Now please hurry up. Remember this goes against your tip." he remarks again and this time with a smirk and holds up his wallet and swings it in the air like its a toy to me.
"Alright sir, i'm sorry" I tell the British boy with dark curls as I walk away.
I bring back their drinks and set them down to take their order.
"So that's one burger with a set of large fries, pickles on the side and extra ketchup. And a chef salad with extra cucumbers and a side dish of dressing on the side, not on top. Is that right?" I ask them as I go down my list of their order.
"Yep!" she tells me and gives me a smile.
"Sounds right," he said and kept his eyes down on the menu.
"Alright! Coming right up for you guys," I give them both a smile and she returns it with a smile and he ignores me.
"Can I take your menu's?" I asked them and she gave me hers but I had to ask him again for his.
"Sir, can I have your menu?" i asked him again.
"Call me Harry," he looks straight up at me and deeply into my eyes and hands me the menu.
"Alright, Harry. Thank you" I tell him as I pick up his menu.
"And yours?" he asked me
"Im Ella," I tell him and put my little notebook full of orders into my apron to hold the menus.
"its nice to meet you Ella," he gives me a sneaky smile and i give him a normal one and walk away to give Niall, our chef, the orders.
