*The school bell rings* I walk down the crowded hall with every kid in the school rushing to get home. I spot my best friend in the hundreds of kids. I can't miss her, she's the only to have her head in a book, rather than a phone. "Hey Bailey!" She looks up immediately and gives me a smile. I squeeze my way through the people and catch up with her. "Whatcha reading?" I don't know how many times I ask her that question. It's almost like my way of asking her how she's doing.

"This? It's nothing. Just some book about California." Wow something other than all her regular science books.

"California... I've always wanted to go.. How about we go in the summer!" She looks at me like I'm crazy.

"No. I'm way too busy, I have a ton of work to do and then it's off to university... and how would we even get there? Plane tickets all the way to Cali are expensive."

"We drive!" she gives me another crazy look. "Oh come on it would be so much fun. Just you and me, together, singing every song on the radio." She bites her lip looking like she would consider it. I grab her free hand with both of mine as I walk backwards guiding her down the hall. "Pleeeeeease." There's a brief pause while I wait for her response.

"Maybe."

I start to jump up and down and yell at the top of my lungs "WE'RE GOING TO CALIFORNIA!"

She grabs my hand and upper arm trying to get me to stop "Oh my god! Vi! Stop. People are looking." we both start to laugh. "Hey, I never said yes."

"But you never said no." She rolls her eyes. We walk out of the front doors of the school. "So are you ready for one of the biggest parties of the year? Jack Reeds!" She looks shocked and that can only mean one thing, she forgot.

"Oh no, is that tonight?" I look at her disappointed "Vi... I'm sorry, I completely forgot. I can't tonight. I have work and you know Reg, he won't let me take anything off unless I tell him a month in advance or it's an emergency."

"This is an emergency! Everyone is going to be there and I need my best friend with me!" How dare that stupid boss take my best friend like that and make her work all night at that stupid pizza restaurant, delivering stupid pizzas.

"Well josh is going right?"

I frown and cross my arms "Yeah, but it won't be fun without you."

"Well I'll call you when my shift is over and see if I can come the last bit."

"Fine." We both get our car keys out and start to walk away.

"Bye."

"Bye. I expect to see you there!"

She giggles "Okay!"
