it was short,

but we were almost

done going over the

full song,

and i believed enough

in him to perform

the duet correctly.

and i guessed he

believed in me, too,

because he stayed up

many nights

and skipped meals

(even against my

saying so)

to practice.

and every time

i came to play

with him again,

he played more

of the right notes

and less of those F sharps.
