Chapter 22

Right after my confrontation with Evan, I decided to multi-task. Of course, I still had to work kasi hindi talaga ako papayag na mauwi sa wala lahat ng pinaghirapan ko. But still, I had my eyes on Jasper.

I already asked all the people I needed to ask.

Jasper said there's no girl.

Evan was keen on keeping me in the dark.

I mean, as far as my conscience goes, wala naman akong ginagawang masama. I was not hiding anything... though try would still be futile. Because when it came to First Lieutenant, I was transparent—more than what I'd permit myself to be.

After the first batch of shoot, I slumped on my chair. Pagod na akong ngumiti at magpose sa harap ng camera, but I love what I do. And although my parents weren't very supportive of me wearing revealing clothes in front of the camera, they're still trying their best to be okay with what I do. And for that, I am very thankful with the life I am living.

"Gutom na kayo?" I asked. Only Kellan and Nico were with me dahil usually talaga ay may naiiwan sa labas para magbantay. I had long given up on knowing why—it seemed like they're following a protocol of some sort. Ewan. Magulo ang world ng military... kasing gulo ni First Lieutenant.

"Okay lang po, Ma'am," Kellan answered, while Nico shook his head. Natawa ako nang mahina. Nico's one, weird guy. I mean, his body's firm but his face looked very innocent, pero para siyang palaging gutom kapag kumain. It's like he's a walking contradiction.

Nang makita ni Kellan si Nico na umiling, sabi niya, "Kain ka na. Ako muna magbabantay dito kay Ma'am."

"Kain na kayo," I told them. Sobrang natutuwa talaga ako sa friendship ni Nico and Kellan. Lalo na si Kellan because he's always looking after Nico's welfare. Parang baby brother niya si Nico.

"Hindi pwede na maiwan ka, Ma'am," Kellan said. "Pero kain ka na, Nico. Baka himatayin ka at tumawag na naman sa 'kin nanay mo."

Gosh. Ang cute talaga nila.

"Uhm... just call Jasper and tell him to guard me."

Nanlaki 'yung mata ni Nico. "Ay, Ma'am, 'di na lang po pala ako kakain."

"No. Sige na. Tell him na sabi ko."

Nico shook his head. "Ma'am naman..." sabi niya na parang nagmamakaawa. Parang nagflashback din siya sa time na almost a month ako na nawala tapos kung anu-ano ang pinagawa sa kanila ni Jasper.

But I was adamant. Kung dati, marami akong kino-consider, now, I decided that I was not doing anything wrong naman. Kasi ang rule ko lang naman talaga is ayoko makiagaw sa guy ng iba. I learned that that's never a good idea... I mean, would you even feel good about yourself while knowing na may inagawan ka? Sobrang active pa naman ng conscience ko.

Nico went out with a heavy heart. Sobrang scared talaga niya kay Jasper. I mean, sure, Jasper looked strict... but hindi naman siya 'yung tipo na inconsiderate. Kahit nga before na ayaw niya sa akin, he was really nice nung iyak ako nang iyak because of Aidan.

Or maybe pissed siya kasi iniiyakan ko 'yung ibang lalaki? Sobrang feeler ko na yata!

"Ma'am, ikaw, ha..." Kellan said, eyeing me.

"What?" I said, feigning innocence. Kellan grinned and then showed me two thumbs up. "Wala akong ginagawa," I just continued.

A few seconds later, dumating na si Jasper. He was walking while Nico was trailing behind him. As usual, he was wearing his dull boy face again. I was beginning to miss him being quite playful. Bakit naman kasi kailangan pa naming makasalubong si Aunt Beatrice. Ni hindi man lang tuloy tumagal ng one day 'yung nice mood ni First Lieutenant.
