Eight Years Ago; Saigon,Vietnam
Lorelei Carter crouched in a treetop, ready to pounce. She had a mission, and was completely focused on it.
Carter stepped subtly into the less than mediocre nightclub in Saigon, in pursuit of a highly dangerous Vietnamese general. This general was feeding Vietnamese military secrets to enemy forces, and he needed to be removed from the equation. That was Lorelei's job; a clean assassination. No witnesses,no uncertainties, no questions. Simple. Although Carter was a highly accomplished assassin, even she had to admit that she'd never been assigned to assassinate anyone as high-ranking as a general. But she wasn't afraid, the law was on her side. That was one of her favorite parts of being an assassin for the government. She stepped toward the counter, in order to look natural.
"Một bia," Carter requested. One beer.
The female bartender raised an eyebrow. "Cô trắng mà nói tiếng Việt giỏi quả!" A white young woman, but speaks Vietnamese so well!
Lorelei smiled slightly, receiving the drink and passing money. Her accents were all impeccable. "Cô nói rất nhiều tiếng." I speak many languages.
The bartender nodded with a smile.
"Cám ơn." Thank you.
"Không có gì," she replied. There isn't anything(you're welcome).Carter slowly sipped her drink and scanned the room for her target. He was nowhere to be seen. Carter wasn't exactly thrilled to be dressed in clubbing attire.
She preferred to be dressed tactically, as all professional operatives did. Just then, the general, General Lương, entered the nightclub with two men. Carter waited for the perfect moment, and began walking toward their table, planning to charm the traitorous general and luring him to a secluded area, only to poison him and frame the bartender. Carter already had the imprint of the bartender's fingerprints on her hand, ready to go. She had set her beer down and intended to ask for a sip of the general's drink. But that plan went to hell in a hand basket when a knife was plunged into the Vietnamese general's back. Carter looked angrily to the right side of the room, where the knife came from.
"What? He owed me money," a British man shrugged.
"Come with me, outside," Carter growled.
"Gladly."****
"So, who are you, anyway?" Lorelei Carter asked.
"Conrad," the man smiled.
"First or last name?" Carter asked immediately.
"Last. My full name is James Conrad, but I just go by Conrad," he nodded.
"Hmm. And you realize that you've just murdered a Vietnamese general?" Carter asked expectantly."Oh, yes. I always know who I associate with. Except for you, apparently."
"Agent Carter of the Department of Extra-Elite Operations, United States. And you have just eliminated my target," Carter announced.
"Ooh, scary. So what happens now?" Conrad asked with a grin.
"I pay you off and you hold your silence. And if you do not, well, use your imagination," Carter said calmly."Done," Conrad nodded.
"How much?" Carter asked.
"Everything you've got," Conrad grinned mischievously.
