[mai: it's real and it's heart-breaking.]
i'm confused as to why a woman's clothes are somehow the defense behind why she was raped or sexually assaulted. hearing, "she was asking for it," has to be the most heart-wrenching thing when you're in court.
saying that a woman doesn't respect herself because of the clothes that she wears is the worst argument that you can use. especially when you get upset at the fact that women wear burkas. women can wear what they want and that shouldn't affect their fundamental human rights. respect isn't measured in clothing and it shouldn't be thrown away when you're drunk and no one's around.
women are objectified and yet people seem to have a problem with admitting this. women are taught guidelines so that they won't have to experience sexual assault and rape.
✿ don't leave your drink unattended
✿ don't walk alone at night
✿ don't wear revealing clothes
✿ go to the bathroom in groups
✿ when walking at night, avoid bushes and alleys
✿ if there is someone chasing you, yell, "fire" because yelling "rape" is said to be less effective by a safety seminar
and there are many more. it's sad that we live in a society in which most women reach their adulthood and have been a victim of sexual assault or rape.
