"ask her out!" micah said happily. "she's such a nice girl, you two would be so cute together."

i chuckled quietly as madeline blushed deeply. "you know what? i'm going to invite her over. if you don't mind of course," micah said.

madeline was hesitant at first but she nodded and micah beckoned caroline to come over to our table. once she reached the table madeline blushed deeply.

"hey caroline, i'm assuming you know madeline and my boyfriend, caleb." micah said, gesturing to us two and she nodded smiling at the two of us. micah sent a look over to madeline, asking her if it was okay to spill her secret. she nodded, gladly giving him acceptance and he smiled. "my friend madeline here likes you. but she's closeted and i want to know if, you know, wouldn't mind taking her out and helping her break out of her shell?"

caroline blushed and i smiled at the sight. "you should definitely say yes." i spoke up and caroline looked at me, so did madeline. "you both won't regret it, i mean i didn't regret it when i asked micah out."

"well, what do you say? want to get some pizza after school?" caroline jokingly said and madeline nodded causing micah and i to both bump our fists in the air. the girls both walked away, getting to know each other i assumed.

"we're like the schools gay power couple." micah joked and i nodded, laughing quietly. "wow, who knew so many people looked up to us."

"it's unbelievable." i say breathlessly. "you never know if there's anyone like you out in this world until you speak up." and that was true, if i didn't tell the class i was trans on my first day i wouldn't have met micah nor would i have helped him accept himself and the closeted kids would never find guidance.

"i'm glad i came out to the literature class on the first day." i say and micah smiles at me.

"i'm glad i got to sit next to you."

^*^*

"mom! i have company over." micah shouts as we walk into his house. surprisingly we weren't greeted by smoke and the raspy voice of his mother.

"mom is out." said an even raspier voice, "who's the company." an unknown man came into view and i gulped, smiling sheepishly.

"my friend caleb." micah said and the taller man nodded, dismissing us both and walking away. i sent micah a questioning glance. "my dad" he mouthed and i nodded my head as i followed him to his room.

we both walked in to the sight of micah's older brother dancing and singling along to disney songs with his younger brother. i immediately burst into laughter as micah tried to hide his amusement. "do you ever knock?" travis groaned.

"it's my room too!" micah shot back, playfully as he walked towards his bed. me following right behind him, taking a seat on it.

"hi, caleb!" tyler said happily, causing a smile to form on my face.

"hi, ty." i said with the same amount of enthusiasm. "we didn't run into each other today." i joked and he laughed, nodding his head.

"where's ma?" micah asked and travis simply shrugged, a frown forming on micah's face.

"went out, i guess. she hasn't been home lately, don't know why." travis said as he turned the music off, taking a seat on his bed. tyler soon taking a seat as well. micah nodded and i smiled at him.

"i also have to tell you something," micah says and i know what he's going to bring up. i can't quite remember if travis knows already, but i'm hoping he does. travis just hummed in response as he looked over at us both. "after i graduate, i'm moving in with cal."

travis smiles at us two, "i actually really like that idea." he chuckles and so do i. i knew he would considering i'm keeping his baby brother safe. "i completely support your choice, i'm going to school as soon as you graduate anyway."

micah gasped as his eyes went wide. "you're going back to school?" he practically shouted and travis nodded, one of his eyebrows raised. even i knew this. "i didn't know this! i'm happy that you're going back."

"yeah-" our conversation was soon interrupted by ellen barging into the room, a cigarette in one hand and a beer bottle in the other.

"what is that dirty trans doing in my house?" she asked as she pointed at me and i winced at her words.

"mom, don't talk about my boyfriend like that." micah said defensively and he almost fainted at his own words. his mom was clueless as to what we were, she had no idea we were dating until now of course.

"you're dating him?" she bellowed and her eyes filled with rage. "my daughter-"

"you mean your son?" i interrupted. i was surprised by my sudden bravery and so was everyone else.

"what?" she asked, utterly confused.

"you called micah a girl which he is not. so therefore you mean your son, not your daughter." i say and she glares at me.

"stay out of this you dirty boy! you corrupted my daughter, you made her think she was boy!" she screamed at me and a scoff fell from my lips.

i had no idea where this confidence had came from but i'm loving it. "i did nothing but help him accept who he is unlike you who constantly puts him down for it!"

she raises her eyebrows at me, "you know nothing that goes on in this household."

i crossed my arms and stood up, realizing that i was taller than the woman. "are you sure about that? micah and travis both tell me everything and i could easily report it but i won't. all i'm going to do is tell you to respect your son and what he wants to be." i let out a breath i didn't even know i was holding in. "there is nothing wrong with someone wanting to change who they are because they don't feel comfortable in the body they were put in. if he wants to change it, let him because there's no stopping him now-" i say soon getting off by her slapping me.

the room was full of gasps at that point and travis stood up as i held onto my cheek. "do not threaten me ever again. i do not care who you are and i do not care what you'll do. "micah" is a female and she always will be."

i didn't want to respond to her then, only because i'm afraid now. her hitting me left a stinging pain on my cheek and my confidence sunk then.

"or maybe micah actually is a boy but you're always drunk so you wouldn't notice that." travis spoke up and his mom gasped quietly. she parted her lips as she was about to speak but soon being cut off by micah.

"i'm a boy mom. and i always will be, you can't change my mind about that. caleb has made me feel like a boy ever since school started and you know what? i'm glad someone believed in me because i knew you weren't going to. he takes better care of me than you do, and he's my boyfriend. my name is micah and i'm a boy, i'm a senior and i'm moving in with my boyfriend once school ends. i'll be starting testosterone once i graduate college and mom there is absolutely nothing you can do."
