Genevieve sat on the roof of an abandoned building. The sun was starting to set and it would soon be time to carry out the plan she had put into place. With any luck she and the rest of the men wouldn't have to steal another purse just to scrap by for the week. She saw someone sit next to her and turned to see Crispin, her younger brother.
"I'm scared," he admitted quietly. "What if something happens? What if we get captured?" Genevieve put an arm around his shoulders.
"I won't let anything happen to you, I swear," she said firmly. "I'll keep you safe no matter what." She watched her brother as his gaze fixed upon the darkening sky and wondered if they really should go through with this. How was it that Crispin could act so old sometimes even though he was still a child? He was tall and still slender but Giovanni had made sure he worked hard every day to improve his strength and build. She suddenly felt two large hands cover her eyes and a smile crossed her lips.
Speak of the devil, she thought.
"You shouldn't let your guard down," Giovanni whispered into her ear before releasing her and sitting on her other side. "Are we ready?" Genevieve watched as the rest of the group gathered around. In all there were six of them. The considered each other family and always looked out for each other. Of the entire group, Genevieve was the only woman but she was also their leader. She nodded at Giovanni's question before addressing the group.
"Remember, we get in, get what we need and get out without being seen or heard," she explained. "No one should know we were there until it's too late, understand." Everyone nodded and she looked at the sky as the last bits of light faded into oblivion. "Let's go."
