As my Wattpad career grows in time, it gets more difficult to write acknowledgements, because people often leave. Not everyone sits through you with the difficulty of writing a novel and people often underestimate the difficulty of finishing a novel—which is why so many people edit their work thereafter or write a sequel.
Writing a story is like creating a certain utopia for yourself. The characters are parts of your heart, part of your brain, and creating them is like giving birth to a fictional character or making a new friend—leaving them and finishing the story is like holding a funeral.
I often see acknowledgements as a small funeral for myself, because I say goodbye to a part of myself.
And even though many people dropped their support for me, I'd like, no love, to thank you, the reader, for sticking around 'til the end. I want to thank you for picking this story over any other story on Wattpad, even if it popped up on your discover page or if you saw someone else read it and picked it up for yourself because you thought to give me a chance.
I don't think there is a way an author can give gratitude worthy of their readers.
