Dean was given a year to live after he sold his soul for Sam. Sam was not happy but he would've done the same if something happened to Dean. The boys met a demon. Named Ruby who "claims" she can help Dean out his deal. The boys are trying to stop a demon named Lilith. She's trying to break the seals to start the apocalypse.
The boys were encountered by Lilith and hell hounds, invisible demonic dogs. The dogs got Dean because his time was up.
