I'm not exactly good at explaining things, so I'll try to make this simple.
Hi, my name is Raven. That's not my birth name, but I feel like my actual name is a lie so I use Raven instead. I'm an only child, and my father died when I was fourteen. My mother and I live on our own, but it's hard to even be in the same house. All my life my parents kept me in the house, and not having any children to play with at my age caused me to be very introverted, especially growing up. My parents usually had too much work so we'd hang out on some occasions, and they didn't exactly have a good relationship either. They'd always argue, sometimes even fist fight. Once in a while when I was younger, they'd fight while I'd be in the same room as them. Because of all of this, I'm used to staying in my room. I have depression, and I assume that I have schizophrenia as well as ADHD, but my parents never took me to the doctors to get me tested.
I am now sixteen years old, a junior in high school and the only interests I have are reading, playing video games, listening and sometimes singing to music, and spending time with my black cat. By record, my cat's nickname is No-No because it sounds like she says no when she meows, but I'd rather call her Catherine, or Cat for short. My mother doesn't have a job and we're living with her mom, who is also letting her two youngest children live with her. My aunt and uncle are twins, and it gets a bit awkward for me to talk to all of them sometimes.
At the moment, I'm listening to my music, the occasional twitch on my body along with me losing my sense of reality. My cat laying near me and my family in the living room. Grandmother isn't home from work yet, my uncle is probably with his friends, and my aunt and mom are probably watching tv. Oh, wait, I hear footsteps. My mom enters our room-yes, we have to share a room, as well as bed and closet- and she goes to get her purse, a pair of sandals already on her feet."I'm going to go to the store. Get up, I want you to come with me." She told me."But I'm wearing my pajamas, and I haven't showered yet." I said as I looked down at my shorts and baggy shirt, remembering that I haven't showered since yesterday morning."Just change clothes and brush your teeth. You're coming with me, and I'm not going to change my mind and wait for you. Hurry up, you're moving like molasses!" She said, then raised her voice at me.'We haven't even moved and she's already getting upset with us.' Shadow grumbled.'We should be used to it by now.' I told my dark side as I got up and started getting some clothes and my toothbrush, my mother leaving the room while muttering and comparing her life to mine, though she didn't understand my actual life.'We should be used to everything by now, but we're not.' Shadow shot back at me. I sighed and started changing clothes, maneuvering my phone around so I don't have to stop listening to my music. Once I'm done, I quickly move to the bathroom and start brushing my teeth.'Same boring routine.' I muttered in my mind.'Almost everything seems boring, and everyone act like idiots. That's apparently the way of life, Raven.' Shadow told me.'I know.' I responded as I rinsed my mouth with water, put away my toothbrush, put on some sandals, and went to the door. Mom opens the door, telling me to hurry up as if the world would end if we don't get to the store on time.
As we drive, mom plays her Christian music, and it clashes with my Vampire Weekend music as I listen to my music in my left earbud while the other is off. Mom seems to be in a rush as she's slowly going past the speed limit. There's a stop sign coming up, but I don't think she sees it since it's mostly hidden by a tree. She drives past it, and doesn't notice the car coming to our left until the last second. I shout in shock as she screams, and the other car slams into the drivers side of our car. I don't know what happened, I think I blacked out. When I could see again, I saw that the car was badly damaged. I turned to my left and saw mom bleeding, her face laying on the steering wheel as she leaned forward with her eyes closed."Mom....." I called out, my voice slightly cracking. I reached out and immediately went to check her pulse. I didn't feel any emotion as I noticed she didn't have one. I turned to my right and opened my door, and I fell out on the front side of my body. My arms out in front of me to soften my landing, I just noticed that they're bleeding. Drops of blood fall to the ground where my face is, and my body starts to register the pain. I groan and turn my body, sitting down next to the car as I hear sirens from police cars and an ambulance. Remembering about my music, I check my pocket and took out my phone to see that it's completely fine. I carefully move my arms and put my earbuds on, unlocked my phone and went to my music. Scrolling through, I find Fix You by Coldplay and play it. Police officers and paramedics rush to me and the car, and they immediately start asking me questions. I answer all of them, and when they go to check on the drivers, I stop them."Don't worry about the body in this car. I know she's dead, but I don't know about the other driver." I said, then groaned as they tried getting me on a stretcher."How do you know if they're dead or not?" One of the officers asked."I took medical core classes during my freshman year. I know where to check for the pulse." I responded, and wince as the paramedics accidentally touched one of my injuries. They nodded and took me away.
About six hours later of waiting in the emergency room and doing tests on me, my doctor comes back to tell me the results."Well, you seem to be very lucky. There are no broken or splintered bones, and your scabs and bruises should eventually heal while your mother had a shattered left arm and a cracked skull and ribs. By the way, I'm sorry for your loss." He told me."It's fine." I mumbled. He looked confused at me for a little while, probably wondering what I said."Well, if you have any requests, you can tell me." He said."Yes. I'd like to have a psychiatrist test me on three things, please." I asked politely, my face void of emotion as he looked at me confused."A-alright. Anything else?" He asked."My mother's instructions for when she dies is in a storage area near Walnut, if you want to know what to do with her corpse." I said. He nodded slowly and I noticed him trying to not walk too quickly out of the room."Oh, and can I have my music back? I don't like the silence." I added. He nodded again and left. A nurse came back a few minutes later and handed my phone and earbuds to me. I thanked her and she left. I sighed and wince as I moved to put my buds on. Unlocking my phone and going to my music, I scrolled and found Migraine by Twenty One Pilots. Laying back and trying to relax, I close my eyes and attempt to fall asleep to the music.
