"What is it, Charlie?"
I know I said
I don't think about relationships
but Alice is different.
She's my best friend.
My only friend.
"Do you think you're
going to get laid tonight?"
She laughs, and her laughter rings
as much as it can ring
in a Big Red Car
while it speeds down the highway.
"You have no tact, Charles."
I realize it wasn't a great conversation starter,
but we're friends and I don't think it should be awkward.
I didn't know what else to say
to keep my voice from mentioning
my love for her.
"But the answer is yes. And I'm hoping you'll be able to say the same to me one day."
I suddenly crave burgers.
