The world's changed a bit since scientists discovered how to make Hybrids.

At first, it was an injection given to willing participants who enlisted in the military.

Yet, the morphed genes for Hybrids soon spread into the gene pools of the civilian population. Scientists didn't take into account the fact that the morphed genes would be passed down to Hybrid offspring.

Hybrids could mate with humans; their children would just sometimes have ears and no tail or the other way around.

If two Hybrids breed, they produced what was called a Purebred. It makes sense.

Now, in the twenty sixth century, there were no flying cars or futuristic buildings; no freeze rays or death lasers.

The world's biggest issues were Hybrid trading, selling, sex rings, homelessness and abuse.

People had started to use Hybrids as pets and- over the years- the Hybrids began to believe this was their role in society.

Yet, Jeon Jungkook, at the age of seventeen, questioned why this was so.

To him, a Hybrid was an extraordinary human; one who couldn't starve to death, one who couldn't freeze in the cold winter months, one who could survive after being hit by a car so long as their brain didn't fly out their skull.

He didn't understand why Hybrids were treated as if they were lesser, when they were so clearly much more....advanced.

Jungkook hated seeing girls walk down the street with a Hybrid on a leash. He hated seeing old pervy men pushing Hybrids against walls and doors and tables.

Jungkook was one of the few who believed in species equality.

His parents taught him, since he was little, that Hybrids are one in the same. That's why his family never adopted a Hybrid or asked to have one developed for them.

Jungkook disliked the idea of a baby being taken from it's mother just so a greedy family could have a house cat or dog.

No one ever really wanted the other Hybrid mixes; the most common ones were dogs, cats, and foxes. Farmers took horses and mules for service workers sometimes, though.

Every now and again you'd meet an abandoned squirrel Hybrid or wolf. The wolves always seemed the most depressed about being homeless.

So Jungkook worked at his parents soup kitchen. He made soup, served soup, and listened to homeless Hybrids talk about soup.

Jeon Jungkook was an expert on soup.

"U-Um..."

Jungkook looked up from the counter, where his Iron Man comic was laid open. He smiled at a Hybrid who stood there. "Hello!"

"He-Hello...I was wondering...it doesn't cost anything to eat here does it?"

Jungkook stood up straight and shook his head, "Nope. What would you like?"

The Hybrid dropped his head, playing with his fingers, "Well, I don't...I don't mind. Whatever you have is alright."

"We've got soup of all kinds. Grilled cheese too."

The Hybrid lifted his head, eyes shimmering and mouth open, "Grilled cheese?"

Jungkook smiled and nodded.

"C-Can I have some?"

"Of course," Jungkook chuckled softly and moved back to the kitchen. He pushed the door open and called, "Eomma, can I get two grilled cheese sandwiches?"
