"And I should give a fuck 'cause you so dearly did." He gestured down to me with his free arm, his eyes connecting with mine momentarily but I wished they hadn't.
There had been plenty of opportunities for me to escape this fucked up game but this man entranced me.
Never in my life had I seen him in action but I wanted to observe. I wanted to grasp how far he was willing to go. How far insane he is.
And he didn't disappoint.
He was deadly. More lethal than any man I had ever met.
I'd seen men here and there possess the kind of energy that encircled him but I'd never, in my entire life, seen a man having so much command over it.
For those men, this aura of supremacy and iniquity surrounded them wherever they went but this man, he took it to another level.
He brought it out when he pleased. Hiding it to transform himself into a victim, epitome of innocence and letting the caged darkness out only when he deemed necessary.
And trust me when I say this, it was far much worse.
"If I were you, I'd reconsider the deal I gave— the only one I'll be offering— before I break this delicate neck." The man's words rang loudly around us, signing the statement with finality.
"I could just kill Alora, you know. I could do the same to her that you're doing to my sister, and maybe then you'd really understand that 'tit for tat' statement."
It was a gamble. A pathetic one at that but still a gamble from Nathan.
The second the words left his mouth, the man unhurriedly turned his head towards us, his face impassive but his green eyes narrowing just slightly observing and calculating.
And then his eyes lit up as a grin formed on his face, his body relaxing faintly. It was a moment so small, so tiny that I don't think anyone would've noticed if they weren't looking but I was. Tonight, he was the only thing I was observing. Noting every single movement of his body.
He pretended as if deep in thought as he blew out a deep breathe, an arrogant smirk lifting his one side of the lips, his left dimple popping just the same as I cursed God for being so unfair with his unrivalled beauty and vilest insolence.
"Hmm, no you won't." And with that he turned his attention back to Natalie dangling from his fingers, observing her like a lab rat.
"Why not? For all you knew, I could put a bullet through her head, this instant. What makes you so sure?" Nathan demanded, his voice hard, just a few drops of his desperation seeping in his words.
I was seconds away from standing up and shouting at them both that I was right in front of them.
The man chuckled, his laughter shutting up any words I had for the two. And I think for the tenth time tonight, I shuddered from the wildness behind that sound of his.
"My God. What type of training do they give here in America? You really are as dumb as I thought." He sighed dramatically, rolling his eyes as he explained further.
"You first giveaway was use of the word 'could'. You'd never hurt Alora. She's far too precious and you know it."
"Well, have fun realizing that your deduction skills are awful."
Nathan chuckled, his words just giving me seconds warning before he stepped back, the pressure of the gun disappearing from my head as he took aim. His desperation to prove the man wrong might just cost me my life, this man who had so much control over them.
