The galaxy is home to a large variety of droids from Astromechs to Medical. There might even be a kind of droid you've never even heard of! If that's the case, you've come to the right place. Here's a quick rundown on (wo)man's best-robotic-friend!


MEDICAL

- known as class one and deals with medicine, math and physics
- had the ability to automatically determine the severity of injuries, medication needed and side effects.
- built-in tool extensions used for surgery
- most notably seen on the planet Kamino


ASTROMECH

- known as class two and designed for the technical sciences
- repair droid that served as mechanics on starships
- known as a class two droid
- speak through clicks and beeps known as binary
- most famous astromech droids include R2-D2 and Chopper (a C-1 series astromech droid from Star Wars: Rebels)


EXPLORATION

- known as class two and designed for the technical sciences
- small and made for tough terrain and travel
- they were used to explore asteroid fields, possible hyperspace lanes, and even deep space.
- a notable exploration droid was BD-1 from Star Wars: Fallen Order


PROTOCOL

- known as class three, and designed to interact with humans
- protocol droids were programmed for diplomacy, often with the knowledge of millions of different languages and cultures.
- they were mainly used by ambassadors and diplomats.
- C3-PO, built by Anakin Skywalker and gifted to Padme Amidala, is an example of these droids


COMBAT/ASSASSIN

- known as class four and programmed for all kinds of physical altercations
- used by assassins to eliminate their targets
- the only class whose programming allows the explicit harming of organic life


GENERAL LABOUR

- known as class five, and responsible for all menial tasks
- the most common droids encounter in the star wars universe
- they are responsible for tasks such as construction, cleaning, general upkeep and urban maintenance
