I decided today was a good day to sleep in, I didn't realize that sleeping in meant sleeping until 1:00 pm...
I woke up and shot out of bed. I had a strange dream about Scott. I dreamed that I was sitting at my bench and playing. Scott walked up to me and said that I played really well.
I thanked him and continued. He just stood there, staring at me. I tried to ignore him, and he just kept staring. I asked him what he was doing and he got closer. I stopped playing and started scooting back on the bench. Scott sat down right next to me and continued staring.
I was confused by his sudden strangeness, I woke up quickly. I stretched and yawned. I groggily made my way down the stairs and found that my dad was gone. I got myself some cereal and sat down with my phone. I hummed the song I made yesterday. Scott's Sister is a fast paced song, that changes tempos and time signatures often. I based this on her distracted mind, that changes so often.
I finished my breakfast and got dressed. I didn't do anything with my hair, because I was just too lazy. I grabbed my violin case and walked to my bench. It was even hotter today, I rumbled with sitting in the shade of a tree instead, but I was stubborn and sat down at my bench.
I played my new song, in attempts to memorize it. I had to take out my notebook multiple times for help. I couldn't play it all the way through without checking my notebook, so I moved to a different song. I played a few songs and then looked around at the beautiful park around me. A couple children, playing on the playground. A couple people, sitting in the shade. A couple sitting on other benches.
I looked at the tree by Scott's house, where me and Kevin sat the other day. Scott was sitting under it, looking at me. We made eye contact, then he blushed and looked away. I laughed at his strange behavior. He glanced at me again and I beckoned him over to sit on the bench with me.
He sat next to me and I asked,"What brings you here today?"
"Well... I kinda just... ummm," he stuttered.
I rose and eyebrow, "C'mon, spit it out."
"I heard you playing and I wanted to listen to it..." He rubbed the back of his neck, I just laughed.
"You're welcome to listen whenever you want!" I continued laughing.
He laughed a bit too and said, "I just didn't want to make a bad first impression, I thought it might be weird."
"Not at all. I wrote a song about your sister!" I told him excitedly.
He stared at me, "You write music too? Wow, that's pretty cool! I don't think I could ever do that!"
"Sure you could, it just takes a bit of practice," Scott scoffed at this.
"By the time I get that good, I'll be middle aged," He said, "I've never even played an instrument before... I don't even know how to read music."
"If you want, I can help you," I really believe that anybody could learn to be as good as me, or anyone else. It just takes practice, passion, and dedication.
Have all three and you'll be unstoppable. Scott smiled at me and shook his head fondly.
"Tell you what," I began, "I'm going to put my violin away and we can get to know each other better! I'll be right back, don't move."
I walked back to my house and saw that my hair looked awful. I set my violin in its place and grabbed a hat from my room. I went back outside and joined Scott under the tree. We began talking about family, why he moved, random things.
"So, why do you play so much?" Scott asked suddenly.
"It's a long story," I shook my head.
"C'mon, I have time," he nudged me with his elbow.
"Well, I play for my mother," I started, "She, she... she's not with us anymore.."
"I'm so sorry, I didn't know.." Scott furiously apologized and I assured him that it was okay.
I knew that he and I would be pretty good friends, I just knew. I don't know how I knew, but I did. At one point I thought about the strange dream. Not knowing why I dreamt it, I kept shrugging it off. I told him about the dream and we laughed at it for a while.
Scott's sister, who I learned was named Lauren, came running and sat with us for a little while longer. Our conversation became more child friendly when she did so. She joined in and it was adorable, her mind was so busy. She could definitely be a musician.
