First things first, hello my dearest darling readers.

I'm so sorry that it's been so long. It's been a rough two years so I apologise for a lack of posting. So I've finished my Leaving Cert (the exams that determine whether I've done enough to get the college course I want). I really don't know how that happened. I still feel like 12 inside so it's a weird thought - although I have to say, the feeling of remembering that I don't have to spend every waking hour studying is so magical. I've worked my ass off so I'm hoping it was enough. Right now, I'm working at a café nearby, so I'm doing this on my day off (wooo).

I promised that I wouldn't leave this story unfinished and, while I took a hiatus, I'm here to fulfil that promise. Steggy will always be a part of my heart, but (and I don't know how the rest of you feel) personally, ever since Civil War, I've felt myself slip away from Marvel (probably that stupid StevexSharon kiss - ewwwwwww). So, I'm going to finish this story but that's it. I'm not going to write anymore marvel fanfiction. Sure, there might be other stories that I write, but, for now, this is gonna be the end of the road for me and Marvel.

Thank you for waiting so so patiently for this. And now, I won't leave you to wait any longer.

Here she is; chapter twenty - eight.

Steve's PoV

The Colonel looked at Steve waves of emotion breaking across his face, but the Captain couldn't bear to meet his gaze, instead opting to eye the floor.

"Right. Jesus Christ. Ormand does not like you. First, Howard tells me, he has your blood and now he's gone and tortured your best friend and turned him into a HYDRA fighting machine-"

"And he almost stole your girlfriend while you were frozen in the ice."

Peggy's voice sounded quietly from where she leaned against Howard's desk, cutting across the Colonel. The two men whirled towards her, confusion and shock all over their faces.

"What?" Steve almost whispered, afraid he heard her right. Peggy's eyes widened as Steve stood up and moved a step closer to her. "Peg?"

"Carter, what in the name of all that is holy on this earth are you talkin' about?"

"I-" Peggy looked up at leave, chewing her lip as if trying to decide on what to say.

"But you said you were only with Scott while..." Steve trailed off trying to read the agent's mind through her eyes.

"I- Steve. Steve, it's-"

Steve saw the hurt in her eyes and his gaze dropped to the floor as he struggled to keep his balance, putting his hand on the chair behind him and slowly lowering himself into the seat. His mind was racing. Her eyes said it all. She had only been with Scott while he was gone, but that was the thing. He looked back at Peggy, unsure what to feel and afraid to even think about it, let alone ask.

"Scott?"

Peggy nodded curtly, her eyes on the ground. Steve felt like someone had kicked him hard, knocking the air from his lungs. He put his head in his hands, trying to breathe. After all this time, after all the time they had served together and this is what it comes to.

Steve's mind was racing. Had Scott been planning this from the start? He must have been. There was no other way he could have pulled it off. No way. He had betrayed Steve; Steve and every single person from the 107th and the war. He had betrayed them all.

"Now, who the hell is this Scott?" The colonel looked between the two. "Well?"

Peggy piped up, leaving Steve to try and digest this new information.
