Monday - September 20

Start from the beginning

Gerald takes his stethoscope and places it on Jonathan's chest, and whispers, "He has a heartbeat, Raymond. It's faint, but he has a heartbeat, nonetheless."

Gerald continues to watch the heart monitor as Jonathan's heart beat begins to rise and eventually beats steadier. They both look at each other and manage to yield a small smile of relief. I open my eyes and see Julie standing before me.

"I know what you're thinking, Julie. I know you already know what I know. Yes, I did read my father's, or should I say my uncle's journal. I am test subject number three, Jonathan. What I was before, I can't remember. But I do remember the white building, a lab, and a man in a wheelchair with... Uncle Gerald. All this time I thought it was a dream. But it was real. I was there. But why did they experiment on me? Do you know why, Julie?" I ask her, hoping she has an answer.

Julie stands and walks over to Stevens to whisper in his ear. Stevens nods his head in acknowledgment and exits the room. Julie picks up the phone, dials, and then whispers to someone on the other end. Unable to hear what she's saying, I turn to Victor Parks and can't believe he's even here. I wish Claire were here, instead.

"John, come with me," Julie says.

"Where are we going?"

"We need to go to lab six to meet with Monica and Ted. Ted's been working diligently on something and believes he may have found the antidote. Let's go." Julie heads for the door when we both hear groaning noises. We turn and see Dr. Parks gaining consciousness. I go to him and smile. Victor stares at me.

"Jonathan? Is that you?" Victor asks.

I grab his shoulder and say, "Yes, Victor, it's me, Jonathan. Victor, I need to know something. Is Claire alive? Is she, Victor? Is Claire alive?"

Victor stares at me with glassy eyes and says, "I'm sorry, Jonathan. I'm sorry."

I squeeze his shoulder, nod my head, and tell Julie I'll meet her out in the hallway. I leave them both alone, as I take my thoughts of Claire with me.

Julie tells Victor, "He knows. He remembers. Do you think he's going to remember everything else?"

Victor tries to sit up, but is yanked back from the restraint. "Was this necessary, Julie?" he asks sarcastically.

"I'm sorry, Victor. We didn't know how you'd react."

Victor continues to hold his arm up and asks, "Well, can you release me, please?"

"Sure." Julie walks around the bed and begins to untie the restraint. When she finishes, she steps back and asks, "Victor, shouldn't he know the truth?"

Victor, now able to sit, leans precariously on the edge of the bed. Julie scampers around the bed and grabs him before he tumbles to the floor.

"Come on, lay back down, Victor. Stevens hit your head hard. We better take an MRI to make sure you're all right," she tells him, as she lifts his feet to help him back in bed.

"Julie?"

"Yes."

"What about Georgia?"

Julie covers Victor with the sheet, giving him a smile, and says "She's in good hands. Don't worry."

"Julie?"

"Yes, Victor?"

"Gerald... Gerald... he... he... don't... stop... him." Victor passes out.

Julie checks his vitals to make sure he's not going into a coma. She goes to the desk and calls a CDC employee and tells them to bring a gurney to room forty-seven to take a patient to imaging for an emergency MRI of the head. When she's finished, she dials a different number. Somebody picks up on the other end.
